Southend on Sea Borough Council is excited to be offering a brand new post developed as part of the new Community Dementia Support Model. Working across Southend you will engage with community groups to identify peer led and volunteer support for people affected by dementia. Building on the current programme of asset based community development and place, will help to promote people’s health, happiness and wellbeing through assessing, identifying and utilising skills and resources within the community. This role is being offered on a permanent basis for 26 hours per week. Please read on for further information about this great opportunity.

Based within the Dementia Community Support Team, part of Integrated Commissioning, this new and exciting position has developed to support people living with dementia and their carers. Southend Borough Council is looking for a creative person with excellent communication skills to develop a range of social opportunities which are age and interest appropriate, making use of community assets and strengths and being co-produced with people with dementia and their carers. Using a person centred approach you will explore individual’s aspirations and dreams and find ways of supporting people to achieve them. You are also expected to build on community resilience and volunteers to establish peer networks with partner organisations across health, social care and third sector, with the aim of empowering individuals to make informed choices.

In order to be successful in your application, you must have an understanding of how dementia will affect everyday life for those living with dementia and their carers. You must be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of asset based community development, place making and community resilience. You will show your ability to build partnerships with people, families and communities but also work alongside and support these people from a variety of backgrounds and varying abilities ,strengths and needs.
