01 Oct 6 Places Available for Y’s Girl Mentoring Programme – Southend YMCA
I’d like to make you aware of a really exciting mentoring programme ‘Y’s Girls’ which is being delivered by Southend YMCA.
Over the past 6mths we have trained 25 Volunteer Mentors who will be working alongside 25 young ladies aged between 9-14, who could be at risk of developing mental health issues for a period of 12 months.
The young ladies will need to have a minimum of 2 risk factors as outlined in the referral form attached, to be eligible for the programme.
The mentee will meet with the mentor weekly to start, for the first 6 months, this will gradually reduce for the remaining 6 months.
They will partake in fun activities within the community, which could range from youth club involvement, to picnics in the park, sports and arts (if this is their interest/hobby) etc.
Once referred, and if eligible, the project co-ordinator will meet with the parent and child, and work on getting the perfect match. The matched mentor will attend a meeting with the coordinator to meet the young person, and from there mentoring sessions will commence.
Full training is provided to all mentors, and enhanced DBS checks and references are sought prior to commencement.
