10 Dec An update from Welcome to the UK
We have started the new academic year with lots of great news.
Our sessions have been fully booked, which is great for us, but most importantly, and this is the big news for us – we have finally been certified as an official registered charity!! No. 1185125 in England and Wales!
This is great for us as a small local charity, we can now apply for much bigger grants, allowing us to help more families and spread our wings.
Speaking of branching out, we have been holding another successful ESOL (English as a Second Language) class in the SS3 area, Shoeburyness at Friars Children’s Centre and are very happy to be able to use another local centre for new people to this area.
We are currently running a Positive Parenting course which proved very popular with both new and experienced parents. Parenting seems to be something you can never learn too much about!
Our friends at the beautiful Novel Coffee Shop on London Road in Westcliff have offered us a space in their lovely store for an ESOL session, surrounded by books, what could be more inspiring!
On Saturdays, we are running a Community Culture Club in the Forum, to engage more with the local community, to encourage integration and education about neighbouring countries our families come from. There are so many wonderful things we can learn about each other when we take the time to sit down and get to know each other.
