Salary Grade: Point 11, £21,166 rising incrementally to Point 16, £23,369 per annum (Pro Rata)

HARP is a Southend-on-Sea charity working to prevent homelessness and help vulnerable and socially excluded people to transform their lives. Each day our staff work with individuals to tackle the underlying causes of homelessness, such as poor mental health or drug and alcohol dependency. From supporting people in crisis to helping them take the final steps towards independence and employment, we make a difference to 1200 lives every year.

This is a rewarding and important hands-on role in our more specialist housing environments where you are supporting people to prepare and cook nutritious and tasty meals and when they are ready stepping back for them to do it themselves with renewed confidence. You should have an awareness of the dietary requirements of preparing and delivering traditional home cooked meals for people with a range of abilities and skills. Other responsibilities will include: menu planning, consulting residents on meal choices, stock ordering, maintaining HACCP records and kitchen cleaning duties. Ideally, you’ll have worked with homeless people or other vulnerable members of the community, so you’ll understand their needs and know how to meet these.

To be considered for this role, you would need to be flexible, empathetic, inclusive and resilient. Even better, you would have excellent interpersonal and communication skills too.

• Have the ability to be flexible with the varying tasks required in a kitchen environment
• Have enthusiasm and a flexible “can do” attitude
• Have the ability to work as part of a team
• A full clean driving licence is essential due to extensive travel in the borough.
