Community Investment Board Volunteer Members Sought

The Community Investment Board are a team of up to 15 volunteers who are responsible for distributing £1.5 million of funds from Southend City Council and more into the community of Southend. Board members are all experts by the experiences they have had of living here in Southend – if you have a passion for seeking improvements across the city then this role is perfect for you. The Board has already invested over £200,000 in supporting over 50 voluntary sector organisations to enhance their impact. The Board are especially keen to hear from those from a range of heritages, young people, those living with a disability, unpaid carers, survivors of serious health conditions, abuse, and/or harm, as well as those with knowledge of arts and culture.

The Board hosted by SAVS are supported by the Council as well as a group of local voluntary community organisations, local health, and social care professionals. On joining an induction and full training will be provided. Members must be current residents of Southend, over 18 and cannot be staff or a trustee of an organisation who may benefit from the fund (volunteers can apply but must declare this). Current employees or elected members of Southend City Council are also not able to apply.

The Board’s vision is of a sustainable Southend where residents engage in their wider communities, and are empowered to realise and reach their full potential. The successful candidates will have enthusiasm and passion for Southend and knowledge of our local community and be committed to being a member for at least one year, but ideally to September 2024. The Board meets the first Friday morning of each month in person in Southend or virtually – members will be expected to attend.
