Essex Volunteers: We Need You – Opportunity to support the local NHS this winter

Local NHS hospitals are hunting for new volunteers to join the team making a massive difference to improving healthcare this winter.

Roles include ‘befrienders’, helping to change patient’s lives both at hospital and at home.  Volunteers might also be assisting as mealtime companions or catering and ward runners.

Full training is provided, and travel expenses are covered too.

Dr Ronan Fenton, Medical Director for the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System adds: “Volunteers already play such a crucial role supporting local people. We’re hoping many more will join us; it provides a real boost to our hospitals which will be vital this winter.”

Mrs Lynn Horne (67), from Chelmsford, is already volunteering four hours a week at her local Farleigh Hospice. She helps on the reception desk and assists patients’ families through difficult times.

“I lost my husband to cancer in 2010, and the care he received from all the staff here was fantastic,” she says. “Volunteering is my way of giving something back and recognising the wonderful treatment he received. I know the time I give is really supporting the hospice and its staff”
