Hours: 21 hours a week (equivalent of 3 days)

Responsibilities:

The Families and Community Worker (FCW) will be responsible for developing opportunities for, and pastoral care of, families and individuals – both within and outside the existing community of Belle Vue. Although there may be a particular focus on children and young people it is important to remember that ‘families’ refers to all generations.

The FCW will do this by:

  • becoming immersed in the current work of Belle Vue by joining and contributing to (to varying degrees) existing teams, in particular:
    • Centre Café
    • Boys Brigade
    • Belle Vue Distribution Centre, Southend Foodbank
    • Messy Church
    • Rock Groups (Children’s Sunday ministry)
    • Shared Space (Southchurch)
  • Exploring ways in which Belle Vue may become more involved in Project Southchurch
  • Developing new activity in the week linked with families and/or community
  • Finding and implementing ways of befriending and supporting families in the church
  • Praying for families and the community and offering pastoral support as appropriate, communicating with the Prayer Team and Deacons where appropriate.
  • Undertaking such other duties as may reasonably be required commensurate with the responsibilities of the post.

 

Continued professional development *

* Depending on existing qualifications and experience, we would expect the FCW to be increasing knowledge and skills, especially in the area of theology, pastoral care and mission

The successful applicant will be required to take a DBS (safeguarding) check before appointment.

About the church

Belle Vue Baptist Church was founded in 1901. We are a congregation of about 90 people (including children).

The church is led by a minister and deacons. We also employ a part-time premises administrator.

We want to embrace and connect the wider community with the Good News of Jesus with creativity, compassion and challenge as we understand the Holy Spirit’s leading.
