Final Phase on Shoebury North Common – Shoebury Residents Association

As you possibly know, we have been working with Shoebury Residents to encourage the Council to invest in Shoebury as a whole. The first phase was to deliver a fantastic Children’s Playground which has succeeded all our expectations. It also included card tables, picnic tables, memorial benches, flower beds & a Petanque court, which was completed last year. This year sees the final phase completed, which is a fully equipped outdoor pneumatic fitness suite. We managed to persuade the 100th Mayor of Southend, Councillor Margaret Borton to open this site and it was lovely to see her try most pieces. We also had the Southend Park’s department attend along with James Duddridge MP, Councillor Derek Jarvis and many others.

Our Association managed to fund a solar powered audio talking bench which will be located later this year to support mental health issues. Our neighbours in Shoebury, Trustlink, have kindly agreed to support this venture, along with our three churches and hopefully, some professional psychological support.

The Council has agreed to also invest £2m on East Beach subject to planning permission, which should include new sea defences, asphalted car park, lighting, CCTV, new playground, refurbished toilets, cycle path from station, new benches and three new refreshment buildings or cafes.

Finally, we intend planting a tree, with a plaque at the Campfield Road war memorial site, to recognise the Shoebury Royal Artillery Association and the local Cubs group, which have been removing weeds from this site for some time.
