Fledglings Groups Testing New App – Safe Steps

Recently, AVA, one of the leading UK charities committed to ending gender-based violence and abuse came to visit us at the Dove Centre in Westcliff-on-Sea to talk about the new app they’re developing for children and young people who have experiences of domestic abuse.

We were so pleased to be one of their pilot groups and help to develop and test this app; the children were also really excited to be involved and make contributions whilst testing certain features of the app. Our Fledglings team were asked to be involved because we work closely with children and young people who have been affected by domestic abuse. It was the third session we have now held with AVA to develop this app so it’s really coming along nicely.

At our Fledglings groups, we focus on a child’s recovery if they have experienced domestic abuse and we also help the parent to aid their child’s recovery. We give them the tools to help them heal, how to spot the signs of an unhealthy relationship and how to manage anxiety. At Break the Cycle we help young people (13-19 year olds) to recognise and recover from unhealthy relationships. Both Break the Cycle and Fledglings are part of Safe Steps, and we support people in Southend affected by domestic abuse.
