Southend Borough Council Business Grants to support 30% of costs for Business Growth Initiatives
The South East Business Boost (SEBB) programme has secured further funding to extend the delivery of business grants to Small Medium Enterprises(SME’s). These grants are non repayable and cover 30% of the costs incurred by a business to implement business developments that will generate business growth and employment. Applications must be made and approved before costs can be incurred.
From 15th June 2020, the popular 30% Growth Grant of between £1,000 and £10,000 can be accessed by Essex SMEs who have not received any other type of support from the SEBB programme to date.
- WHAT IS THE GROWTH GRANT?
- A 30% Grant for eligible Essex SMEs who are in the position to or are planning to carry out a Growth project.
- WHO CAN ACCESS THE GROWTH GRANT?
- The Growth Grant is available to support eligible small to medium enterprises and trading sole traders whohave not previously received support via the SEBB programme and require funding for their specific eligible Growth project.
- HOW MUCH GROWTH GRANT FUNDING CAN ELIGIBLE SMEs ACCESS?
- The total Growth Projectcost must be between a minimum of £3,333 and a maximum of £35,000. The SME would self-fund 70% of the project cost and the Growth Grant would fund the remaining 30% from a minimum of £1,000 to a maximum of £10,000.

Southend Emergency Fund – Funding for Southend Groups Available
Funding is available from Southend Emergency Fund for groups of all sizes and even those who have applied previously to spend as soon as possible on…
- Activities and purchases needed to support the continued challenges of lockdown and recovery from it.
- Fund to support the health and wellbeing of those clinically extremely vulnerable (high risk) from COVID-19.
- Southend Emergency Fund is delighted to be administering funding from what was previously known as the Southend Borough Council In Year Grants scheme – grants of up to £2000 can be made towards your work within the community of Southend.
Applications received by Tuesday 12pm, are reviewed Wednesday morning with funds and decisions shared within the week. Groups can reapply every 4 weeks for further support. Examples of previously funded projects include;
- Food vouchers for young people.
- IT equipment for those isolated without internet access.
- Care packs for vulnerable people living with mental health issues.
- Mobile phones to support remote working during lockdown.

Essex Community Foundation
£1 million of ECC funding to support local charities in Essex
Fowler, Smith and Jones Trust – Next deadline for Applications is Friday 13th August for September Trustees meeting.
The Trustees meet three times a year, to consider applications. The meetings take place in February, May and September.

The Trust does not fund:
Direct replacement of statutory funding or activities that are primarily the responsibility of local or central government are not considered to be qualifying areas for awards by the Trustees. The Trust provides grants to institutions which are in the main UK based charities, and whose objectives comply with the Trust’s criteria. It is noted that the recipients themselves are thus regulated to ensure they operate for the public benefit.

Leigh-on-Sea Town Council COVID Community Recovery Award
A new scheme is being officially launched today – Leigh-on-Sea Town Council’s COVID Community Recovery Award. The purpose of this award by Leigh-on-Sea Town Council (LTC) is to support regular local hirers at Leigh Community Centre who provide a valuable service for our young, elderly, for health and well-being or the disabled (whether fully or in part) and who were not eligible for the Government Grants and may struggle to recover as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The benefit being commensurate with the value of the award.
The Award will take the form of free hire of facilities at Leigh Community Centre as detailed in the policy and application.

Conditions of Funding
The hirer must have been a regular user of the Community Centre in March 2020 or commenced using the Centre for hire between September and December 2020 qualifying for the regular user discount rate.
Applications will NOT be considered from:
- Political parties
- Commercial organisations that don’t offer classes to Leigh residents
- Purposes for which there is a statutory duty upon other local or central government departments to fund or provide
- Organisations intending to support or oppose any particular political party or to discriminate on the grounds of race, religion or disability and other protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act

South East Creative Grants for businesses
We know that many businesses in the creative sector, as with many others, are finding this an extremely difficult time. South East Creatives has been supporting companies to develop their businesses and we will try to continue to do this. We have found ways to move many of our workshops and mentoring programme online so that they can be accessed remotely. We will also continue to offer our Top-up and larger grants.
The grants can be used to buy new equipment, to work with a consultant, perhaps on a new website or for training. For top up projects of between £3000 to £4000 it’s a simple application process to get back 35 per cent of your spend as a grant. For example, a £3000 spend would give you a £1050 grant. We can also support larger grants up to a value of £20,000.
We appreciate that for many people this is a time of trying to stay safe and struggling with loss of income, so developing your business may not be your top priority.

A B Charitable Trust Funding for Projects that Combat Abuse and Violation of Human Rights (Closing date 31st July)
UK-registered charities that work towards combating abuse and violations of human rights can apply for grants of usually between £10,000 and £20,000 through the A B Charitable Trust. The A B Charitable Trust (ABCT) was set up in 1990 and supports unpopular causes that champion human dignity and to focus on small and medium-sized charities working close to the ground.
Applications are particularly welcomed from charities working to support:
- migrants, refugees and asylum seekers
- criminal justice and penal reform
- human rights, particularly access to justice
The Trust generally makes one-off grants to charities registered and working in the UK with annual incomes of between £150,000 and £1.5m that do not have substantial investments or surpluses. Grants range in size, with most grants awarded being in the range £10,000 to £20,000. ABCT does not normally fund charities with large national or international links.

AllChurches Trust Funding to Extend the Reach of Christian Organisations
Funding is available for Christian organisations to significantly extend their reach to a greater number of people who will benefit from their work.
Allchurches Trust’s Transformational Grants Programme provides funding for major, multi-year capital projects and equipment. This year the Trust will also fund salaries and other revenue costs.
In addition to meeting the Trust’s core criteria for the award of a grant, applicants must demonstrate how their project will achieve as many as possible, and ideally all, of the following criteria:
- Significantly extend the organisation’s reach to a greater number of people and/or over a wider geographical area, and increase the scope of its work
- Make a vital difference in enabling the organisation to realise its overall vision and strategic aims
- Lead to a significant step-change or growth for the organisation – numerically and spiritually
- Benefit not only the immediate organisation but other similar organisations and/or the wider community as well
Churches, cathedrals, Christian denominational bodies, and Christian charities in the UK and the Republic of Ireland are eligible to apply and are encouraged to explore partnerships and shared learnings that will benefit the Christian sector. There is no maximum grant, but only a limited number of grants are awarded each year. Applications can be made at any time.
Allen Lane Funding for Community Cohesion Projects
The Allen Lane Foundation’s Social Cohesion Programme, provides funding to support local communities in breaking down barriers and reduce tensions between different groups of people, and help to build a more cohesive and inclusive community. The aim of the funding is to:
- Proactively work towards building better community cohesion and trust, and encouraging respect and understanding in the local area
- Proactively promote the inclusion of marginalised groups and individuals in the life of the local community
- Fund work which breaks down barriers and tensions in the local community thereby reducing feelings of division and “them and us”.
The Foundation is seeking applications from community-led grassroots groups and organisations which have a focus of work being at a very local/community level, which could be a housing estate or distinct community. The Foundation is particularly concerned about divisions in communities that occurred around the 2016 Referendum and subsequently.
Applications will be particularly encouraged from areas of high deprivation but not exclusively and the Foundation is keen to support communities in coming up with their own solutions to local issues of division. New initiatives, those that may have been tried before or are on-going, are considered as long as the work has lasting benefits for those people the projects are aimed at.
No minimum or maximum grant levels are published. In 2018, of the 153 grants awarded 112 were single grants with the remainder being for two or three years. The majority ranged from £750 to £15,000 with recipients including:
- Shelley Over 60’s Club – £4,000
- South Tyneside Prison Matters – £1,000
- Manchester Refuge Support network – £9,935
Trustees meet to discuss grant applications three times a year, generally in February, June and October.

Alpkit Foundation Funding to Support Grassroots Organisations During the Coronavirus
In response to the coronavirus, The Alpkit Foundation are prioritising funding to support projects that demonstrate an immediate impact on those affected by the crisis.
Grants are available to grassroots organisations serving those affected by the outbreak. Funding can provide support for activities which might include
- helping vulnerable and elderly people who are self-isolating,
- supporting the homeless,
- providing access to food, medicines or social care,
- supporting foodbanks,
- increasing the number of meals on wheels deliveries,
- bringing exercise indoors.
Applications up to £500 can be made at any time and will be checked on a daily basis.
Anchor Foundation Funding for Christian Charities Promoting Social Inclusion
The Anchor Foundation provides grants of between £500 and £10,000 per year to Christian Charities that encourage social inclusion through ministries of healing and the arts. Funding can be awarded for up to three years.
The Foundation will consider applications for either capital or revenue funding. Only in exceptional circumstances will grants be given for building work.
Previously funded projects include:
- The Karis Neighbour Scheme which received a grant of £700 for revenue costs at a drop-in centre for women refugees in Birmingham.
- Discovery Camps which received a grant of £1,500 to subsidise holidays for children arranged by churches in and around Dundee.
- Scargill House which received a grant of £5,000 to facilitate cross cultural engagement and understanding amongst children using arts based residential courses in Yorkshire.

Anglian Water is working with fifteen Community Foundations in the East of England, East Midland and Yorkshire to allocate their £1million Positive Difference Fund to support communities affected by the covid-19 pandemic. Charities and community organisations who are supporting vulnerable people who are isolated, considered high risk and in need of practical support can apply to their local Community Foundation. Half of the fund is being made available immediately, with the remaining half released later in the year to meet emerging needs from the fallout from the pandemic. Eligible organisations will be able to apply to their local Community Foundation for grants of up to £5,000. Projects could include support for foodbanks, services which tackles homelessness, and which provide groceries and/or ready-made meals. Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust – Sustaining Support for Armed Forces Communities (Closing date 4th June)
In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust has launched a new £6 million programme to provide short-term support for existing charitable projects supporting Armed Forces communities in the UK.
The Sustaining Support to Armed Forces Communities programme will award grants of up to £100,000 to Armed Forces charities and charities with an existing track record of supporting Armed Forces communities.
Two funding tracks are available:
Project Funding Track
- Grants of up to £50,000 or up to £100,000
- For existing projects only that are well used by people from Armed Forces communities.
- Will fund up to 2 Full Time Equivalent staff to deliver your project or activity for a year; plus other reasonable costs.
Core Funding Track
- For Armed Forces Charities only
- Grants of up to £50,000 or up to £100,000
- Will fund up to two Full Time Equivalent core staff where that enables your organisation to keep delivering services.
- Can also apply for help for transformational costs to help your charity be in a stronger position to deliver services and support in future.
The deadline for applications is midday on the 4th June 2021.
Arnold Clark Community Fund – Funding to Support Charities & Community Groups Affected by the Coronavirus Pandemic
Charities and local community groups across the UK who are in need of financial assistance due to the coronavirus pandemic can apply for funding of up to £1,000 to continue their work during the crisis.
The Arnold Clark Community Fund will award 500 grants through a monthly draw to help charities and community groups continue their important work which may be at risk due to the pandemic. Only one application will be accepted per organisation and entries must be received by 11.59pm on the last day of each month to be considered for that month. Applications that are unsuccessful one month will be kept in the draw for the following month.

Arts Council Grants to Encourage Participation in the Arts (Closing date 11th June)
The Arts Council England has launched a new round of their Creative People and Places National Portfolio Fund. The aim of the Fund is to support arts projects in places where involvement in the arts is significantly below the national average.
Grants of between £750,000 and £1 million will be available to both new and existing consortia and will operate over three years, investing in programmes of activity that bring creative opportunities to communities in 66 eligible locations not currently engaging with the arts.
The Arts Council is keen to encourage long-term collaborations between local communities and arts organisations, museums, libraries and local authorities. Match funding of 15% is required.
The closing date for applications is the 11th June 2021.
Aviva Community Fund Grants of up to £50,000 Available for Community Projects
Aviva has launched the next round of its Community Fund. Aviva has teamed up with the fundraising platform Crowdfunder to offer funding of up to £50,000 to small charities, schools and community interest groups in the UK with innovative ideas that benefit their community. Every three months from January 2020 onwards, £250,000 will be split equally among Aviva’s UK employees to donate to the projects that matter to them most.
Aviva wants to support projects that boost the resilience of communities in the face of uncertainty and will be supporting projects in two key areas:
- Community resilience: tackling inequality and improving environments by building inclusive and resilient
- Financial capability and inclusion: promoting financially inclusive communities, where people can better manage
their finances and avoid problem debt
To take part the project must also be raising funds to develop a new approach, product or technology, pilot a new scheme, implement a new initiative, or expand existing services to a new area or beneficiary group. All beneficiaries must be in the UK.
Applications are open on a continuous basis and are reviewed every three months. The closing date for this round is the 6th July 2021.
Once applications have been submitted, applicants will need to create a fundraising page on Crowdfunder that Aviva employees can browse and donate funds to. Applicants can also showcase their projects to raise additional public donations. https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/
Bailey Thomas Charitable Fund Funding for Projects that Address Severe Learning Disabilities
The Baily Thomas Charitable Fund is a registered charity which was established to provide both research and project funding in the area of severe learning difficulties, including autism for both children and adults.
General grants are made to cover capital projects and core costs to include staff costs, general running and office costs at charitable organisations, schools and centres.
Projects funded include:
- Capital works for residential, nursing and respite care, and schools
- Employment schemes including woodwork, crafts, printing and horticulture
- Play schemes and play therapy schemes
- Day and social activities centres including building costs and running costs
- Support for families, including respite schemes
- Independent living schemes
- Support in the community schemes
- Snoezelen rooms.
Applications will only be considered from voluntary organisations which are registered charities or are associated with a registered charity. Schools and Parent Teacher Associations and Industrial & Provident Societies can also apply. Funding in the past has ranged in value from £250 to £150,000.
The deadline for applications seeking funding in excess of £10,000 was 1st March 2021.
Applications for £10,000 and below are considered under the Small Grants procedure and can be submitted at any time.
Barchester Charitable Foundation Grants to Help Older People or Adults with Disabilities Lead More Fulfilling Lives
Barchester’s Charitable Foundation is a grant giving charity that helps older people and other adults with a disability across England, Scotland & Wales to lead more fulfilled lives and reach their full potential.
The Foundation’s focus is on connecting or re-connecting people with others in their local community, helping combat isolation and loneliness and enabling people to be active and engaged.
Funding of between £100 and £5,000 is available for individuals and small community groups to help improve people’s mobility, independence and quality of life. Individual applications must be completed by a third-party sponsor such as a health care professional, social worker or charity/support group representative.
Applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis, with funds allocated to those who demonstrate greatest need.
The Barclays Foundation – COVID-19 Community Aid Package
The Barclays Foundation have announced a £100 million COVID-19 Community Aid Package – The package consists of two strands. £50million will be donated to charities chosen by Barclays and £50million will be donated by matching their employees’ personal donations (individual organisations cannot apply for this funding. The money will be disbursed principally in the UK. barclayscovid-19-community-aid-package/
BBC Children in Need Emergency Essentials Programme
The BBC Children in Need Emergency Essentials Programme which supports children and young people up to the age of 18 living with severe poverty as well as additional pressures such as domestic violence, disability or poor health in the family is currently open for applications from referral organisations that will be able to apply for grants on behalf of families or young people.
The fund will cover the purchase of critical items such as:
- Gas or electric cookers
- Essential household items
- Furniture and kitchen equipment
- Children’s beds and bedding
- Washing machines
- Fridges and freezers
- Baby equipment
- Clothing in exceptional or emergency situations.
BBC Children in Need Emergency Essentials Programme can no longer award grants for laptops, iPads and toys & games. The temporary funding for these items has now been fully allocated.
Applications must be completed by a registered referrer who is part of an organisation that is supporting the family or young person and capable of assessing their needs. The referrer’s organisation should also be able to administer and supervise the grant on behalf of the BBC Children in Need Emergency Essentials Programme.

‘Beer’ Grants to Help Safeguard Live Music Venues & Get Bands Touring Again (Closing date 5th June)
In response to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on independent music venues, Signature Brew has committed £250,000 worth of beer to a new fund to help venues across the UK recover and get bands touring again. Artists with gigs or tours booked in the UK within the next 12 months will be eligible to apply for their share of the beer.
Successful applicants will receive an allocation of the brewery’s Studio Lager via Beer Grants worth between £500 and £5,000. Touring bands and artists can also apply for between one and five cases of beer which they’ll be able to take on the road with them.
A panel made up of expert music industry professionals will join Signature Brew to help allocate the grants to successful venues.
The deadline for applications is 12pm on the 5th June 2021.
Bluespark Foundation – Funding for Projects that Support the Education and Development of Children and Young People
Schools, colleges and community groups in England can apply for grants to BlueSpark Foundation to support the education and development of children and young people through educational, cultural, sporting and other projects. BlueSpark is particularly keen to support projects which will help enhance the self-confidence, team working skills and future employability of children and young people. In most cases grants will be made on a relatively small scale. Many of the grants the Foundation make are under £2000 and none are more than £5000.
Funding provided by BlueSpark for a project must be crucial to the project rather than marginally incremental to its funding. The funding available can be for physical assets (such as iPads, sports equipment, or lighting for stage productions) or for services or facilities (such as sports coaching or music or drama tuition) or simply for the provision of experiences (such as theatre visits). These examples are intended to be illustrative and not restrictive as to the funding which BlueSpark may provide to support projects.

Boost Drinks has launched the Choose Now, Change Lives community grants scheme
Boost Drinks has launched the Choose Now, Change Lives community grants scheme to help groups benefit their local area.
The scheme is inviting charities, community groups, local authorities, health authorities, social housing, and other not-for-profit organisations to nominate themselves for a share of the £20,000 grant fund. This could include community sports clubs, community action groups, youth work, music groups and food banks, etc.
Nominations will be shortlisted three times throughout the year in May, July and September. Following each shortlist taking place organisations will be notified and the public will cast their votes for the organisation that they would like to receive a grant.
Three organisations will be shortlisted to receive a grant of between £1,000 and £10,000.

British Red Cross Launches Hardship Fund
The British Red Cross are providing financial support to help the most vulnerable financially impacted by the covid-19 crisis. The British Red Cross Hardship Fund provides short term financial help for individuals who can’t afford essentials such as
- Food and toiletries
- Somewhere safe to sleep,
- Access to a telephone and the internet
- Fuel to keep the lights on, cook or stay warm
The fund aims to help people who can’t afford the essentials because they have:
- No income or welfare support
- Delays to accessing income or welfare support
The money will be delivered on a pre-paid card by either a one-off payment of £120 or a three-month grant of £360 which will be paid in three monthly instalments of £120. Families with children or other dependents can receive up to three grants, for a total of £1,080 over the three months.
The British Red Cross will be working with statutory and voluntary partner organisations to ensure we are helping the people in greatest need but will only accept referrals from official Referral Partners who are registered with the Hardship Fund. https://hardshipfund.redcross.org.uk/

The Canoe Foundation has announced that the next closing date for applications is the 31st August 2021. The main purpose of the Canoe Foundation is to “support all to enjoy and benefit from the experience of paddling on our water in a sustainable manner”. The Foundation does this through grant making that facilitates improvements to suitable landing and launching points and by promoting the conservation of inland waterways for the benefit of all sectors of the community.
The current focus of the Foundation’s awards are on:
- Increasing and protecting public access points to water for recreational users.
- Creation of sustainable launching and landing sites, to and alongside water, for all sectors of the community and abilities.
- Protecting and enhancing the natural environment.
The Foundation invites applications for grants ranging from £500 to £10,000; although grants typically range between £2,500 and £5,000. Exceptional projects over £10,000 will be considered.
Funding applications are welcome from clubs, community groups, Parish Councils, Local Authorities or anyone in the UK with an active interest in improving access to water for recreational users and protecting the environment.

£30 Million Investment to Provide Changing Places Toilets
£30 million worth of funding is being made available by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government to increase the number of Changing Places toilets across England.
Funding will be distributed through Local Authorities, who will be invited to opt-in to bid for a proportion of the funding so they can install facilities in their communities and increase the number of Changing Place toilets in existing buildings, for example, leisure and sports, cinemas, and arts and tourism venues.
The aim of the programme, which will be delivered in partnership with Muscular Dystrophy UK, is to ensure more disabled people can take part in everyday activities that have the greatest impact on their quality of life.
District and unitary authorities will receive full details of how they can access this funding in due course.
As funding will be distributed through Local Authorities, it is recommended that interested organisations get in touch with their relevant local authority to register their interest in working in partnership with them to deliver a Changing Places toilet in their venue/ building.
Childs Charitable Trust
The Childs Charitable Trust is a grant-making trust, supporting Christian UK registered and excepted charities and organisations both in the UK and overseas. During 2017 the Trust awarded grants to 81 different organisations all based in the UK but operating in more than 100 different countries worldwide.
Please note: The Trustees do not currently accept funding requests for:
- New builds, repair, refurbishment, renovation projects, or fixtures & fittings.
- Salary costs for Youth workers.
- Street Pastors/Wardens
- GAP Year projects.
Projects will be considered that fall into the following categories:
- Youth – the trust looks to support projects working in schools and with vulnerable and disengaged young people in the UK. Supported activities may include RE Lessons; School Assemblies; Lunchtime/After school clubs; Evangelism; Personal Development Programmes; Homelessness Prevention.
- Outreach – the trust works to share the gospel of Christ by supporting all aspects of Christian outreach both in the UK and overseas and can fund, for example, Church Plants; Overseas Mission; Training in Evangelism; Chaplaincy.
- Society – the trust believes people of faith bring a valuable contribution to social action and justice and support initiatives that have a positive impact in their society. Grants could support, for example: Counselling; night shelters; alcohol/drug rehabilitation; homelessness; or prison/ex-offenders work.
- Education – the trust supports initiatives involved in all areas of Christian education including Bible Translation; Media Initiatives; Bible Colleges; Literature; Apologetics.

The Clothworkers Foundation Grants Available for Capital Projects Benefiting Disadvantaged People
The Clothworkers Foundation awards grants to UK registered charities, CICs, and other registered UK not-for-profit organisations (including special schools).
Grants are awarded towards capital projects and may cover the cost of:
- Buildings: Purchase, construction, renovation or refurbishment.
- Fittings, Fixtures, and Equipment: Including (but is not limited to) office equipment/furniture, sports/gym equipment, digital/audio visual equipment, garden equipment, specialist therapeutic (excluding medical) equipment.
- Vehicles: Including a minibus, car, caravan, people-carrier, or 4X4 (new vehicles are unlikely to be funded).
Applicants must be able to demonstrate that the work of the organisation fits within one or more of the Foundations programme areas which are:

Comic Relief Community Fund Launched
Comic Relief has launched its Community Fund. Grassroots community organisations with an income of less than £250,000 can apply for funding to help them develop their organisation through a Capacity Building Grant of up to £500 or to deliver projects through a Project Delivery Grant of up to £4,000.
The grants available to organisations whose work delivers on one of Comic Relief’s four strategic themes:
- Children Survive & Thrive: projects that support children under the age of 5 to reach their potential and have the best start in life.
- Fighting for Gender Justice: projects that improve equality for women and girls and initiatives that help people affected by domestic violence, abuse or exploitation due to their gender or sexuality.
- A Safe Place to Be: projects that support people who are rebuilding their lives because of homelessness or forced migration.
- Mental Health Matters: projects that support good mental health in communities, improve access to support and tackle stigma and discrimination.
This new funding programme aims deliver long lasting community driven change.
Both funding programmes accept applications on a rolling basis and there are no application deadlines.

Common Call Grants Programme
Grants of between £1,000 and £3,000 are available to UK based social organisations led by people that identify as Black or Mixed with Black that have a positive impact on deprived communities and are providing services to people that have been adversely affected by the COVID crisis in terms of physical health, mental health and/or financially.
The grants are specifically aimed at supporting Black-led social enterprises and charities so that they are able to survive and even thrive in the COVID period.
The funding aims help grantees:
- Get better informed about their options (moving to new methods of delivery) post-COVID19.
- Develop new enterprising activities and earned income strategies.
- Test the viability of specific propositions.
- Develop clear implementable action plans for such activity.
This is a flexible fund that can be spent on anything that will help organisations best deliver impact to their beneficiaries. The funding is being made available by Do it Now Now’s Common Call Covid Fund.

Concertina Music Grants for Older People
The registered charity, Concertina which makes grants of up to £250 to charitable bodies that provide musical entertainment and related activities for the elderly has announced that the next deadline for applications is the 31st October 2021.
The charity is particular keen to support smaller organisations which might otherwise find it difficult to gain funding. Concertina has made grants to a wide range of charitable organisations nationwide in England and Wales. These include funds to many care homes for the elderly to provide musical entertainment for their residents. Some of the charities that have received grants from Concertina include:
- Theatre Chipping Norton to help fund high calibre music recitals in six Care Homes in the area.
- Sue Ryder Care, Lancashire to fund access to music therapy workshops at Birchley Hall near Wigan and St Helen’s.
The Co-op Local Community Fund Re-opens for Applications (Closing date 31st May)
The Co-op have announced a new funding round to support projects which benefit local communities in the vicinity of Co-op Food Stores and funeral homes across the UK and the Isle of Man.
The Co-op Local Community Fund will fund projects which help local communities come together to help those in need by providing access to essentials such as:
- enabling people to access food and co-operate together to feed everyone
- helping improve people’s mental wellbeing
- offering young people opportunities to develop new skills and make a difference in their community
Preference will be given to organisations with an income of less than £1 million a year.
The fund is open to registered charities, locally-based voluntary and community groups and other not-for-profit organisations.
The closing date for applications is midnight on the 30th May 2021 to submit their applications.
DPD Eco Funding up to £2,000 Available for Green Projects
Delivery company DPD has announced that grants of up to £2,000 are available through its Eco Fund. The fund is open to anyone but schools and educational facilities across the UK working on green projects with their students and start-up companies working on developing environmentally friendly products are particularly encouraged to apply.
Previous projects supported include:
- Hinckley Academy, which received £1,000 to purchase seven recycling bins for the school canteen area. The bins in the canteen area allowed pupils to segregate waste, reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.
- Pitmaston Primary School has received £1,700 funding to redevelop its forest school facility and plant hedgerows creating an environment for wildlife to thrive.

Emergency Funding to Help Young Refugees and Asylum Seekers Affected by the Coronavirus (Currently paused)
In response to the coronavirus, Hope for the Young have launched a Covid-19 Emergency Relief Fund to support vulnerable young refugees or asylum seekers up to 30 years of age who are in need of immediate financial support.
Grants of up to £250 will be available for up to twelve weeks and will be allocated on a case by case basis to help relieve social isolation and financial hardship. Funding is available to help with costs such as purchasing food, medication and toiletries, and essential utilities.
The fund is open to external applications, however, in the first instance, priority will be given to young people receiving support from the Hope for the Young who meet the fund criteria. Hope for the Young aims to respond to all applications within one week of receipt to discuss the application further.

Esmée Fairbairn Foundation Launches New Strategy
In response to the Covid-19 pandemic and the effects of climate change, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation is launching a new strategy, which will focus on three interdependent aims:
- Improving the natural world:
- Tackling injustice to deliver a fairer future;
- Creative, confident communities.
Under the new strategy, the Foundation will be providing larger and longer-term grants of over £30,000, as well as social investments of between £100,000 and £2 million to charities or initiatives with ideas working towards these aims. The new strategy is supported by the need to tackle structural inequality, racism and the causes and impacts of climate change.
Funding can be used to cover core or project costs, including staff salaries and overheads. Collaborative approaches are encouraged.

Fat Beehive Foundation – Funding to Improve Online Digital Presence for Small Charities
UK charities can apply for funding of up to £2,500 to help them improve their online digital presence. The Fat Beehive Foundation awards small grants to charities with an average income of less than £1 million a year to support hard-to-fund digital expenditure that other funders will often not cover.
Funding will help organisations to build websites and apps, digitise services, and purchase digital products. Priority will be given to projects which focus on
- environmental protection or climate change mitigation,
- human rights,
- international development,
- equality and diversity,
- social justice / refugees / housing,
- art and culture,
- health and wellbeing,
- prisoner rehabilitation.
Applications are considered on a rolling basis at quarterly trustee meetings. Closing date for the next round of applications is Wednesday 30th June.
Feminist Review Trust Grants of up to £15,000 Available for Projects that Support Women
The Feminist Review Trust has announced that grants of up to £15,000 are available for projects both in the UK and internationally that support women and girls.
Applications will be particularly welcome from non-OECD countries that focus on campaigning and activism in the following areas:
- Lesbian and transgender rights
- Violence against women and girls
- Disabled women and girls
- Refugee women and girls

Finnis Scott Foundation Grants to Support Projects in Horticulture, Plant Sciences, Fine Art & Art History (Closing date 4th June)
UK charities and charitable organisations, including school Parent Teacher Associations, are eligible to apply for grants of up to £10,000 to support projects in the areas of horticulture, plant sciences, fine art and art history.
The Finnis Scott Foundation will award funding to cover capital or revenue expenditure, with preference given to smaller organisations where the grant will have a significant impact.
The Foundation also makes grants to individuals by means of bursaries, traineeships or apprenticeships, but only through a sponsoring educational establishment or registered charity.
The next closing date for applications is 4pm on the 4th June 2021, for the next trustees meeting in July.
Football Foundation Grass Pitch Maintenance Fund Grants to Improve the Quality of Grass Football Pitches
To prevent the cancellation of thousands of football matches in England each year, the Football Foundation has launched a new £14 million fund to improve and maintain the quality of grass pitches.
The Grass Pitch Maintenance Fund will provide eligible grassroots clubs, leagues, charities and National League System Clubs (Step 1-6) with a tapered six-year grant of £2,500 to enhance pitches that are considered ‘poor’ or ‘basic’, or £750 to help them sustain pitches already at a ‘good’ level.
All applicants must have the required security of tenure and have a pitch inspection before an application can be submitted. Funding can be used to carry out maintenance recommendations provided by the Foundation which can include contractor works, and the purchase of materials and equipment.
Applications will be accepted until the fund has been used. The fund is allocated on a first come first-served basis.
Ford Britain Trust
The Ford Britain Trust’s large and small grants programmes are currently open for applications. Through the large grants programme registered charities, Schools/PTAs (Non-fee paying, state sector schools only) and non-profit organisations can apply for grants of between £250 and £3,000 and for grants of up to £250 through the small grants programme.
Projects must meet the following criteria
- Benefit the local community/environment;
- Work with young people/children;
- Promote education/schools (mainstream) as well as special school
- Promotes the teaching of Engineering
- Support special educational needs and people with disabilities.
Grant applications will be considered for projects being undertaken/expenditure being made in all UK postcodes however locations near Ford Motor Company Limited / FCE Bank plc UK operations are given a higher weighting.
- Essex (including East London)
- Bridgend (South Wales)
Exceptions may be made for initiatives in which Ford Motor Company Limited employees and retirees are involved. Grants made by the Trust are usually one-off donations for a specific capital project or part of a project, typically items of furniture and equipment.
The small grants programme will open for applications from the 1st April 20021 to the 30th June 2021. For applications to the large grants programme the closing date is the 31st July 2021.
The Fore Transformational Grants for Small Charities and Not for Profit Organisations
The round that opened on 12th April 2021 has now closed. Registration for the Autumn 2021 funding round opens on Monday 26th July at 10am.
The Fore will be making grants of up to £30,000 to support small organisations working with marginalised groups and led by people in the community that may have found it hard to access trust and foundation funding in the past.
The Fore makes unrestricted grants for up to three years that have the potential to have a transformational impact on an organisation. Transformational impact includes helping an organisations become more sustainable, more efficient, to grow significantly or enabling an organisation to take a major step forward of some kind.
Any registered charity, CIC, CIO or Community Benefit Society with turnover of under £500,000 in the last financial year is eligible to apply.
To apply for funding, organisations must first register some basic contact details at the start of each funding round. The number of registrations accepted for each round is capped and registrations are run on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the cap is reached, the round is closed, so please register early (Registrations open at 10am).
In previous years the cap has been reached within 24 hours of the funding round opening for applications.
The Foyle Foundation – Small Grants Scheme
The Foyle Foundation has re-opened its Small Grants Scheme to support smaller, grass-roots and local charities across the UK during the Covid-19 crisis. Organisations which are currently delivering services to the young, vulnerable, elderly, disadvantaged or the general community either directly or through online support can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £10,000. Funding can be used to cover core costs or essential equipment, to enable ongoing service provision, homeworking, or delivery of online digital services for charities with a turnover of less than £150,000 per annum that can show financial stability and a clear need for their services. Competition for funding is expected to be strong. Applications can be submitted at any time.
Foyle Foundation Re-opens its Main Grants Programme
The Foyle Foundation, which is one of the UK’s largest grant making charity, has announced that its Main Grants Programme has re-opened for applications to support charities with a core remit of the Arts or Learning.
Within the Arts programme, the Foundation seeks applications that make a strong artistic case for support in either the performing or visual arts. The Foundations seeks to support organisations to stabilize and recover from the impact of Coronavirus.
Within the Learning programme, the Foundation will support projects which facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and learning and which have a long-term strategic impact. Key areas for support are libraries, museums and archives; special educational needs; projects that encourage sustainability by reducing overheads or which help generate additional revenue. This might include environmental improvements to save energy and lower carbon emissions where a cost benefit can be demonstrated; projects and activities which increase access and widen the diversity of attenders/visitors.
In light of the uncertainty caused by the pandemic, the Foundation has revised its criteria and will change to make one-year grants only (no multi-year grants) to charities that can demonstrate ongoing financial stability for the next 12 months from the date of their application. In addition, more grants will be available to cover core costs, favouring those charities with no, or without significant, public funding.

Friends of the Elderly – Grants for Older People on Low Incomes
Small grants of up to £500 are available to support vulnerable older people living on low incomes in England and Wales.
Friends of the Elderly currently have four grant streams open for older people who are of/over state pension age, have savings of less than £4,000, and who do not fit the criteria for other funders:
- Home Essentials to help with the cost of replacing everyday items, small home repairs and mobility adaptations;
- Digital Connection to help older people get online;
- Financial Support to help with unexpected bills;
- Essential Living Costs including clothing, food, medicines and books.

Gamesys Foundation Funding to Alleviate Mental Health Issues
The Gamesys Foundation is a newly formed charity, set up by the Gamesys Group to alleviate Mental Health Issues. Funding is available to charities and other not-for-profit organisations with an income of more than £50,000 who support individuals suffering from mental health issues, as well as those who focus on research in the mental health field. The Foundation will also consider funding for other types of organisation so long as they can be proven to have an impact with regard to mental health, support, and treatment. Funding comes from both corporate contributions and employee initiatives.

Global’s Make Some Noise – Grants to Support Vulnerable & Disadvantaged People
Grants of between £20,000 and £30,000 are available to small, local charities that support vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK.
Global’s Make Some Noise provides funding for projects that make a difference in people’s lives by providing:
- Providing safety and shelter
- Supporting physical and/or mental health
- Developing life skills
- Reducing isolation or improving inclusion

Groundwork & One Stop Support the Elderly
Groundwork and One Stop Stores have teamed up to deliver the One Stop Community Partnership Programme to support groups and organisations who are working to tackle food poverty or supporting the elderly within the local community.
One Stop convenience stores will create partnerships with local community groups or charities across England, Wales and Scotland to provide support for local good causes which could include funding, volunteering, fundraising and awareness raising.

Hedley Foundation – Grants to Improve the Quality of Life for Disadvantaged & Vulnerable People
The Hedley Foundation are inviting applications from small-to-mid-size registered charities helping to improve the quality of life of people in the UK, particularly those who are disadvantaged and vulnerable.
The Foundation typically makes around 250 awards of up to £5,000 each year for initiatives that benefit the lives of young people, disabled people, elderly people, the terminally ill and otherwise disadvantaged people and their carers. Occasional larger sums are given to charities where high impact can be achieved.

Help the Homeless Grants up to £5,000 (Closes 15th June 2021)
Help the Homeless makes grants of up to £5,000 to small and medium-sized charitable organisations (with a turnover of less than £1 million) whose aim is to help homeless people return to the community and enabling them to resume a normal life.
Typically, such organisations may operate small or medium-sized residential or training facilities to assist homeless people.
The grants are available for capital costs and examples of previously supported projects include:
- The Booth Centre, an advice and activity centre for homeless people in Manchester, where people undertake education and training courses as well as receiving advice and food, received a grant of £1,500 to transform the centre with new lighting, a new water heater and new decoration.
- A grant of £3,000 to the Amber Foundation to enable the Foundation to buy new bedroom furniture for their residential centre in Devon, where every year over 60 unemployed, homeless young people are able to rebuild their lives and gain the motivation, confidence, self-esteem and skills for independent living.

Help Musicians Fusion Fund – Development Grant for Emerging Artists
Musicians can apply for up to £5,000 to undertake a UK-based collaboration between themselves and another non-music artists, for example storytellers, lighting designers, choreographers, technologists, scientists, gaming designers, theatre directors, visual artists etc.
There should be tangible results of the collaboration, such as a body of work created for an upcoming recording or a new performance.
Eligible musicians will be over 18 based primarily in the UK and be in financial need and without significant backing. Solo instrumentalists, conductors, composers, vocalists, singer songwriters or multidisciplinary artists are amongst those eligible to apply. Bands or ensembles with six members or less can also be supported.
The funding is being made available through the Help Musicians Fusion Fund.

Henry Smith Charity – Funding for Projects that Improve People’s Lives
The Henry Smith Charity provides grants of between £20,000 and £60,000 per year for up to three years to charitable organisations (charities and not-for-profit organisations, including social enterprises) that help people when other sources of support have failed, are inappropriate, or are simply not available.
The charity has six funding priorities that describe the work they support and how they want to bring about change for the most disadvantaged people in the greatest need. These are:
- Help at a critical moment – Helping people to rebuild their lives following a crisis, critical moment, trauma or abuse.
- Positive choices – Helping people, whose actions or behaviours have led to negative consequences for themselves and others, to make positive choices.
- Accommodation / housing support – Enabling people to work towards or maintain accommodation.
- Employment and training – Supporting people to move towards or gain employment.
- Financial inclusion, rights and entitlements – Supporting people to overcome their financial problems and ensure that they are able to claim their rights and entitlements.
- Support networks and family – Working with people to develop improved support networks and family relationships
Grants can cover running costs, salaries and project costs for organisations that can demonstrate a track record of success and evidence the effectiveness of their work. Eligible organisations include charities and not-for-profit organisations (including social enterprises) in the UK with a turnover of £50,000 – £2 million (in exceptional circumstances up to £5 million).
Applications can be submitted at any time and decisions are usually made within 6 months.
Henry Smith Strengthening Communities
The Strengthening Communities grant programme (up to £20,000 per year for a maximum of three years) is designed to support small community-led charitable organisations (with an income between £20,000 – £500,000) working at grassroots level. Through this grant programme The Henry Smith Charity wants to make sure that their funding reaches the most disadvantaged areas of the UK, targeting places that are economically marginalised and affected by poverty.
The Henry Smith Charity funds established organisations with a track record of delivering services directly to beneficiaries. They are looking for organisations that are embedded within their communities and are addressing local needs.
The Strengthening Communities grant programme funds work that enables:
- People from across the community to participate in activities which improve connectedness, opportunities and wellbeing
- People who are excluded, vulnerable or facing other forms of hardship to have access to community-based services that support positive lasting change
- A stronger, active, more engaged community.

Hilden Charitable Fund – Funding for Community Based Projects

Home Instead Bring Joy Foundation – Funding for Activities to Improve the Lives of the Elderly
The Home Instead Bring Joy Foundation makes donations to charities, small grassroots organisations, and other not-for-profit groups that can demonstrate their commitment to creating activities designed to improve the lives of the elderly across the UK.
Small grassroots organisation can apply for funding up to £500 and small local registered charities can apply for funding of up to £1,500. Larger grants can be considered for exceptional projects. The funding is available for events, activities or pastimes that prevent social isolation and loneliness amongst adults over the age of 55 years. For example, a day care centre organising a trip to the seaside.
Donation requests of more than £5,000 will be considered for exceptional projects.
This is a rolling programme and applications can be made at any time.
Homelessness Winter Transformation Fund £1 Million Capital Stream (Pre-application deadline 24th May)
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has launched a new funding stream for the homelessness, faith, community and voluntary sector to provide single room/ self-contained and Covid-19 secure accommodation for people experiencing homelessness in England this winter.
Applicants must be able to spend the capital grant by the 31st October 2021.
The £1 million Capital stream of the Homelessness Winter Transformation Fund will provide grants of between £25,000 and £100,000 to support adaptations and renovations to accommodation, to enable Covid-19 secure environments for winter services.
The fund will be managed by Homeless Link in partnership with Housing Justice.
A pre-application questionnaire must be submitted by the 24th May 2021.
Applicants may then be invited to submit full applications by the 21st June 2021.
Ironmongers Funding to Enable Disadvantaged Young People Reach their Potential
Registered charities (including Schools that are registered as charities for young people with disabilities) that work with disadvantaged children can apply for funding of up to £10,000 through the Ironmongers Company’s grants programme.
Projects must meet all the following criteria:
- For children and young people under the age of 25 who are disadvantaged
- Consist of educational activities that develop learning, motivation and skills
- Have clear aims and objectives to be met within a planned timescale
- Are within the UK
The Company is particularly interested in enabling primary age children to develop a strong foundation for the future. Projects could, for example:
- support special educational needs,
- address behavioural problems
- promote citizenship, parenting or life skills.
Preference will be given to projects piloting new approaches where the outcomes will be disseminated to a wider audience.

“I’ve got an Idea” Fund Reopened 8th February 2021 – Currently Closed. Due to reopen July
This Fund reopened on 8th February. “I’ve got an idea” is a micro fund for individuals (or small groups or organisations) who have a novel technical idea which they want to try out.
We are looking for ideas…..
- That are based on a novel technical idea.
- That would deliver a social or environmental benefit.
That are intriguing, inventive and have an element of fun.
The fund offers grants ranging from £250 to £5k. Once the fund’s allocation has been used, it will be closed for applications until the funding pot has refilled. It is not our normal practice to provide part funding to larger projects.
This is a doing fund. We only fund the costs of making and/or testing the idea itself. We do not cover payment for people’s time or marketing/promotion costs.
Applicants must be resident in the UK.
Jean Sainsbury Grants to Support Animal Welfare Charities (Closing date 1st September)
Charities registered in the UK and working to offer sanctuary, rehoming and rehabilitation to animals in the UK and/or internationally can apply for a grants of up to £35,000 through the Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust.
Organisations involved with the conservation of wildlife, the rescue, rehabilitation and (where possible) release of animals are also eligible to apply. The funding supports general running costs or capital purchases.
The Trust encourages repeat applications from charities when further financial support might be given if funds allow.
The next deadline to apply is the 1st September 2021.
John Lewis new community support fund
A £1m Community Support Fund will be available to communities across the UK to help those in need in their local communities. Teams in each shop will work together with their communities to choose the best way to use the fund. Help could include setting up additional local delivery services to support the self-isolating, the vulnerable, the elderly and those looking after them; delivering boxes of staples to local care homes and community groups, and donating products to create care packages for customers to share with vulnerable neighbours.
Kelly Family Charitable Trust Funding of up to £5,000 Available to Tackle Problems within Families
Registered charities whose activities support and encourage the family to work as a cohesive unit in tackling problems that face one or more of its members can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 (but trustees will consider requests for higher amounts) through the Kelly Family Charitable Trust. The trust has decided to prioritise its funding in favour of charities whose activities involve all or most family members where possible, in initiatives that support and encourage the family to work as a cohesive unit in tackling problems that face one or more of its members. The objective is to reinforce the benefit and support that family members as a unit can give to each other.
The Trust will consider both capital and revenue grants. The Trust is happy to support requests for core funding as well as project-based grants, and actively encourages applications from relatively new organisations to help them become established.
The three areas of activity that the charity wishes to support are:
- Interventions that support families and help them in ways that prevent the fracture of the family unit, eg practical family support, relationship counselling, mediation.
- Families where sexual abuse, physical abuse, domestic violence, alcohol abuse and drug abuse threaten the integrity of the family unit.
- Prisoners and in particular their families, during and after the period of imprisonment.
The trust prefers to support charities whose income is below £500,000. However, larger charities with pioneering pilot projects will be considered.
Projects supported in the past include:
- “Mosac”, a voluntary organisation that supports all non-abusing parents and carers whose children have been sexually abused.
- Westminster Befriend a Family, which recruits, trains and supports volunteers to befriend individual families under stress and visit them regularly in their homes. The charity’s volunteers can help families where a parent is disabled or has mental health problems, or a child has special needs.

Lloyds Foundation Fund
Small and local charities in England and Wales helping people overcome complex social issues can now apply for two-year unrestricted grants of £50,000 from Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales. At least 25% of all funding this year will be allocated to charities led by and for Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities, building on the Foundation’s commitment to racial equity as outlined in its strategy. The funding will be open year-round, meaning charities can apply at a time that suits them and will not be restricted by deadlines.

Lloyds Bank Foundation – Racial Equity Funding for Charities that Support Black, Asian, and Ethnic Minority Communities
The Lloyds Bank Foundation has announced that its Racial Equity funding programme is open for applications. The programme supports charities with an annual income of between £25,000 and £1 million that are led by and support black, Asian, and ethnic minority (BAME) communities across England and Wales.
Two-year grants of £50,000 are available along with development support to help build organisational capacity, and improve resilience and sustainability. The funding will support initiatives which help people from BAME communities to overcome complex social issues such as:
- Addiction and dependency
- Asylum seekers and refugees
- Care leavers
- Domestic abuse
- Homelessness and vulnerably housed
- Learning disabilities
- Mental health
- Offending, prison or community service
- Sexual abuse and exploitation
- Trafficking and modern slavery
- Young parents
More than half of the trustee boards of those that apply must self-identify as Black, Asian or minority ethnic. This can also include Jewish communities, Gypsy & Traveller communities and some migrant communities.

Magic Little Grants 2021
2020 was our biggest programme to date, seeing us distribute £500 grants to 938 charitable organisations delivering sports or physical activities across the UK. With the support and contributions from the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery. 45% of groups who received Magic Little Grants were brand new organisations to our platform.
We are delighted to announce that our 2021 programme promises to be even bigger and better than ever. This programme is now live and accepting applications until 31st October 2021 (application deadline). Not only are we partnering with our usual funding trust, Postcode Community Trust, but we are also partnering with 5 additional funding trusts to distribute £1m pounds worth of funding to 2,000 charitable organisations on Localgiving. The 6 funding trusts from the People’s Postcode Lottery who we will be collaborating with to administer our biggest ever Magic Little Grants in 2021 are:
This year we will be funding over double the amount of organisations that we ever have before and we will still be spreading this funding out far and wide across the country. Not only this, but we have expanded our eligibility criteria. In previous years, funding had to go towards projects that were delivering sports or physical activities. But this year funding can go towards any of the below projects:
- Improving mental wellbeing
- Enabling community participation in the arts
- Preventing or reducing the impact of poverty
- Supporting marginalised groups and promoting equality
- Improving biodiversity and green spaces
- Enabling participation in physical activity
- Responding to the climate emergency and promoting sustainability
- Increasing community access to outdoor space
If your organisation is carrying out a project within these themes, make sure to get your applications in as the campaign is now live. The application process is short and simple, taking 10 minutes to complete. Each organisation may only apply once in 2021.
If your Magic Little Grant application is successful, alongside the £500 grant you will also be awarded a year of free membership (funded by the player’s of the People’s Postcode Lottery) meaning you will not have to pay the £80 + VAT membership fee, but you will still be required to set up a direct debit upon registration. All applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application, regardless of whether they are successful or not, within two months of their submission.

Marsh Christian Trust Grants to Cover Running Costs for Small Charities
The Marsh Christian Trust was founded in 1981 with the sum of £75,000 by its current Chairman, Mr Brian Marsh OBE. His aim was to create a sustainable way to give something back to society by supporting organisations and people who are making a difference.
The Trust supports around 300 charities every year and focuses on providing funding which could help small organisations pay for various running costs, such as volunteer expenses, training days, equipment maintenance and other core outgoings. The Trust aims to build long-standing relationships with successful applicants and, subject to an annual review, continue its support over time.
Applicants must be a registered charity with the Charity Commission for England and Wales or the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator. This does not include Community Interest Companies (CICs). Charities will be working in the areas of:
- Arts and heritage
- Social welfare
- Environmental causes and animal welfare
- Education and training
Charities must have been established for more than one financial year and able to provide a full set of their most recent Annual Report and Accounts, or the equivalent financial information if their annual income is under £25,000.
Grants are unrestricted and range from £300 to £2,000 with new applications at the lower end of this scale.
Applications are considered on the basis of the organisation’s financial position, performance against charitable aims and objectives and the ratio of voluntary income against fundraising expenses.

Matthew Good Foundation Funding for Projects that Have a Positive Impact on Communities, People, or the Environment
The Matthew Good Foundation has launched a Grants for Good Fund to support small charities, not-for-profit groups and social entrepreneurs who are passionate about making a difference to people, their community, or the environment.
The Fund will share £10,000 between five shortlisted projects, which will be voted for by John Good Group employees. The project that receives the most votes will receive a grant of £3,500, second place £2,500, third place £2,000 with fourth and fifth place both receiving £1,000.
As well as established projects and charities, the Foundation are keen to hear from people with innovative ideas that need some funding to get their projects up and running.
To be eligible, applicants will have to have had an income of less than £50,000 in the last 12 months.
Charities and projects are welcome to apply all year round, and your application will be considered in the next funding round. Funding will be awarded every three months, in April, July, October and January, with an application deadline of the 15th of the month before.
Morrison’s Foundation Grants up to £25,000 to Support Local Good Causes
The Morrison’s Foundation awards grants of up to £25,000 to community projects that improve people’s lives.
Applicants must demonstrate how the project will deliver public benefit, who in the community will specifically benefit and how it will bring about positive change.
Grants may be applied for by any charity which is registered with the Charity Commission (England and Wales) or the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (Scotland) . Applicants must also have raised some funding towards the project elsewhere.
Projects supported have ranged from support groups to children’s hospitals and homeless shelters to hospices across England, Scotland and Wales. In 2018, a total of £9,717,536 was distributed to 807 organisations which included:
- Groundwork London received a grant of £11,578 to run a series of activities for people at risk of social isolation.
- Friends of East Preston School received a grant of £5,000 to replace their old and dilapidated outdoor trim trail.
- Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice received a grant of £20,000 to buy a new minibus and run activity trips for young patients.

MSE Funding for Financial Literacy Projects
The MSE Charity’s latest round of grant-giving, February 2021, has now closed. The charity’s received and accepted the maximum 40 applications, and applicants will be advised of the outcome by 5pm on Thursday 22 April.
Its next grant round, themed on life-changing transitions, opens on 1 September 2021.
National Churches Trust Maintenance Grants for Churches
Churches can apply for grants of up to £500 (excl. VAT) towards the cost of building’s maintenance services. The grant will cover up to 50% of the cost of works.
Churches are only eligible to apply for a Preventative Maintenance Micro-Grant if they book one of the following services through the Maintenance Booker website:
- Rainwater goods maintenance;
- Lightning protection system repairs;
- Asbestos removal;
- Masonry repairs and high-level maintenance.
The National Churches Trust accepts applications from listed and unlisted churches, chapels and meeting houses of any age, as long as they are open for regular public worship and are located within an area covered by Maintenance Booker services.

The National Churches Trust’s Gateway Grant Programme Opens for Applications
Grants of between £3,000 and £10,000 are available to listed and unlisted Christian places of worship, of any denomination, across the UK towards developing a church building project. This includes Churches, Chapels and Meeting Houses. Funding can also be used for urgent and essential maintenance and repair projects.
The National Churches Trust’s Gateway Grant Programme also offers grants of between £3,000 and £10,000 to local church trusts:
- To fund projects that support organisational development,
- To increase their capacity to support churches in their area.
- That deliver new ways of supporting churches in their area.
All grants will represent a maximum of 50% of the net project costs.

The National Lottery Community Fund has reopened its larger grants programme.

National Lottery Community Partnership Fund
Not for profit organisations such as community organisations, charities, schools and social enterprises in England can apply for grants of over £10,000 for up to five years to the National Lottery Community Fund’s Partnership Fund. The aim of the fund is to help local organisations develop a more strategic approach to improving their community by developing and growing new and existing partnerships with other organisations. This can involve area-based partnerships or communities of interest.
Funding is available to:
- build strong relationships in and across communities
- improve the places and spaces that matter to communities
- help more people to reach their potential, by supporting them at the earliest possible stage.
During the current Coronavirus crisis, The National Lottery Community Fund will continue to support people and communities most adversely impacted by COVID-19. Support is available to:
- continue to deliver activity to existing users, responding to the immediate crisis or undertaking recovery activity
- change and adapt, becoming more resilient in order to respond to new and future challenges.
The grants can be used to fund project activities, operating costs, organisational development and capital costs. A total of £40 million is available this year.
The Big Lottery Fund will support ideas that meet one or more of their three funding priorities:

The National Lottery Community Fund – Bringing People Together Programme – Funding to Build Stronger Connections Across Communities
The National Lottery Community Fund is offering grants of up to £300,000 for community-led projects that brings communities across the UK together.
The Bringing People Together programme will support projects run by charities, voluntary and community organisations, CICs, CIOs and statutory bodies that build stronger connections across communities and improve the infrastructure and conditions that are needed to strengthen these connections.
This is funding is from the National Lottery Community Fund UK Portfolio. The UK Portfolio is where the National Lottery Community Fund explores new approaches, experiments with how to do things differently, and look to fund work that is more future focussed.
The Fund expects to make up to twenty awards over the next twelve months to enable organisations to deliver collaborative projects across at least two countries in the UK that focus on equality, diversity and inclusion, particularly amongst communities disproportionality affected by the pandemic such as people of colour, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people, and asylum seekers or refugees.

The National Lottery Community Fund – Growing Great Ideas Programme
The National Lottery Community Fund’s Growing Great Ideas Fund has £25 million available to fund projects that support long-term societal change. The Growing Great Ideas programme is part of the UK Portfolio. The UK Portfolio is where the National Lottery Community Fund explores new approaches, experiments with how to do things differently, and look to fund work that is more future focused.
The Growing Great Ideas Fund wants to invest in different combinations of people, communities, networks and organisations over the long term that demonstrate an ability to seed and grow alternative systems, develop, and test new ways of building a stronger civil society, and to learn and adapt as they go.
This could involve developing new ideas on how the economy could work or how society could be organised. Grants of up to £150,000 are available. Groups, networks, or partnerships, etc can apply for grants of up to £150,000.
Lead organisations need to be a:
- Registered charity
- Community interest company
- Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)
- Community benefit society
- Co-operative society (if it has a not-for-profit clause)
- Voluntary or community organisation
- Statutory body (including town, parish and community councils) – They can be part of the initiative but not lead it
- Company limited by guarantee (if it has a not-for-profit clause).
The minimum length for projects is two years. Funding can be available for up to ten years in some circumstances.

National Lottery Heritage Fund Reopens for Applications
Applications for National Lottery Grants for Heritage have re-opened for applications. The focus for 2021 – 22 will be to support projects that will strengthen the recovery of the Heritage sector from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The National Lottery Heritage Fund will award grants of between £3,000 and £5 million to not-for-profit organisations and private owners of heritage across the UK.
Three levels of funding are available:
Priority will now be given to heritage projects that:
- boost the local economy;
- encourage skills development and job creation;
- support wellbeing;
- create better places to live, work and visit;
- and improve the resilience of heritage organisations.

National Survivor User Network’s Side by Side Fund Funding to Support People and Communities Living with Mental Ill-Health, Trauma & Distress (Closing date 31st May)
Grants of between £200 and £500 are available to peer support, mutual aid or self-help groups in England and Wales for activities that benefit people or communities who live with mental ill-health, trauma and distress.
The funding is being made available through the National Survivor User Network’s Side by Side Fund and can be used to help community member-led groups to connect remotely, prepare to move their activities to face-to-face, or make their group more sustainable.
Examples of activities which could be funded include: PPE/cleaning materials; travel for members; zoom subscription/online platforms; equipment such as a laptop or tablet; mobile data; room hire; DBS checks for facilitators; activity materials. This is not an exhaustive list.
Applications are particularly encouraged from groups led by and for people from racialised communities/people of colour, young people aged 18 to 25 years, and groups who have been unable to meet during the coronavirus pandemic.

Nationwide Building Society Community Grants – Up to £50,000 Available to Support the Housing Needs of Vulnerable People (Closing 17th June or earlier subject to number of applications in the region)
Grants of up to £50,000 are available to housing related registered charities, co-operatives and projects to support their work in tacking housing issues affecting vulnerable people.
The grants are being made available through the £4 million Nationwide Building Society Community Grant Scheme. The funding can be used to help charities get back on their feet after the impact of Covid 19 and supporting people in housing need, in original or creative ways.
The funding can be used for:
- Core costs – up to 20% of the grant amount requested, including running and facility costs, office equipment, supplies, printing, travel and accommodation.
- Staff and volunteer costs for the project lead partner – including full-time staff, part-time staff, project delivery staff costs and other related expenses.
- Small-scale capital costs – including one-off expenses for equipment, or fixed assets that may have use or benefit beyond the life of the grant (one financial year), such as computer hardware, or items required to deliver a project, such as paint, paintbrushes
and gardening equipment.
- Activity costs – such as catering or insurance, costs that help deliver projects or activities but fall outside of capital, staffing and volunteering costs.
- Development and capacity building costs – that support organisational sustainability, such as training staff and volunteers, and external consultancy fees.
- Building works and refurbishment costs – where they’re essential to the successful delivery of the project.
The program will fund between 50% to 100% of the total cost of projects which last up to two years.

Ocado Foundation for Good (Closing date 31st December)
Ocado has launched the Ocado Foundation for Good with BizGive, to support charity and fundraising activities across the UK.
The programme will support ‘the many rather than the few’ by providing grants of up to £1,000 to charities, community organisations, community interest companies, academic institutions, and local authorities for community projects which focus their efforts on three core areas:
- skills for the future,
- natural resources
- responsible sourcing.

Paul Hamlyn Foundation Funding to Support Youth Organisations
Not for profit youth organisations that support young people (aged 14 – 25) facing disadvantage can apply for grants of up to £90,000 spread over three years through the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Funding to Support Youth Organisations (UK)
The Youth Fund supports organisations whose main purpose is about helping young people in the most precarious positions, where making the transition to adult independence is most challenging.
The funding is available for up to three years and will support the core operating costs of the applicant organisation. Organisations may be planning to:
- Replicating a programme or service
- Widening the reach of an idea or innovation
- Spreading a technology or skill
- Advancing policy or enhancing its implementation
- Influencing attitudes

Previous projects supported through the Youth Fund include:
The British Youth Council (BYC) which received a grant of £60,000 over 24 months. BYC is the national youth council for the UK. Each year it supports up to 2,000 young people to participate in local youth councils or national networks, such as the UK Youth Parliament and Make Your Mark referendum campaign. The funding was used to develop its income generation capability and enable BYC to offer participation training to frontline staff.
The London Youth Support Trust (LYST) received a grant of £60,000 over 24 months. LYST is a youth enterprise charity that aims to help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to start their own businesses. Through this grant LYST plans to expand its business incubation and support programme nationally, opening two enterprise centres out of London, in locations where youth unemployment is an issue. Funding would enable the team to focus on fundraising, build relationships with potential partners, and research and formalise an appropriate structure moving forward.
Pet Rescue Funding to Support Organisations Affected by the Coronavirus
Pet rescue organisations can apply for funding to help support rescues throughout the short- and medium-term impact of the coronavirus. Through the Support Adoption for Pets Grant Programme, charities and not-for-profit organisations which rescue and rehome pets or provide temporary support to ensure pets can remain with their owners can apply for funding of up to £10,000 or up to 30% of total annual expenditure, whichever is the lower amount.
Funding must have a direct impact on animal welfare and can be used to cover vet bills, boarding costs, food, salaries of animal care staff, utilities and consumables. Priority will be given to organisations whose medium-term survival is at risk.

Pink Ribbon Foundation Grants (Closing date 26th June 2020)
The Pink Ribbon Foundation has announced that it is currently accepting applications to its grantmaking programme.
Grants of up to £5,000 are available to UK charities:
- To relieve the needs of people who are suffering from, or have been affected by, breast cancer by providing, or assisting in the provision of, information, care or emotional, practical and financial support.
- To advance public education in the understanding of breast cancer, its early detection and treatment, in particular but not exclusively by commissioning, or conducting, research into the causes, detection and treatment of breast cancer and by disseminating the results of such research.
Higher grants may be awarded if the trustees feel there is a special reason to do so.
Any charity working in the field of breast cancer can apply for a grant.
Applications from general cancer charities must demonstrate that the grants requested will be applied to benefit those affected by breast cancer. Where applications relate to general services, details must be given of how many (and what proportion) of the total number benefiting from the charity’s work are affected by breast cancer.
The closing date for applications is the 26th June 2020. Grants are awarded annually in late July.
Power to Change – Supporting Community Businesses Affected by the Covid-19 Crisis

Ragdoll Foundation Funding for Projects that Use the Arts and Media to Address the Concerns of Children
Not-for-profit organisations in the UK that are working with children and young people using the arts and creative media can apply for funding through the Ragdoll Foundation. The Foundation’s vision is to support projects where the concerns of childhood can be heard. A variety of art forms can be supported including dance, drama, ceramics, creative play, film, music, puppetry and storytelling. Supported projects need to support equality of opportunity, can include families and take place in rural or urban settings and may be delivered, for example, in children’s and community centres, nurseries, schools and hospitals.
Funding is available through two programmes:
- Main Grants Programme (formerly Open Grants Scheme) – Grants of £1,500 to £50,000 are available for new, larger or longer-term projects. Projects can last for up to three years. There is a two-stage application process. Stage1 applications to the main grants programme are assessed on a rolling basis and can be submitted at any time. Applicants successful at this stage will be invited to submit a stage 2 application.
- Small Grants Programme. Organisations can apply for up to £1,500 for small, one-off projects, pilot projects, or research and development projects lasting up to 6 months. The next deadline for applications is the 2nd July 2021.
Preference will be given to those projects which have a deep commitment to listening to children and allow the perceptions and feelings of children themselves to be better understood. The Foundation is mainly interested in applications that involve children during their early years, but appropriate projects for older children (up to 18 years) will also be considered.
Whilst the Foundation will fund work in and around London, they will prioritise projects taking place elsewhere in the UK.
Examples of grants awarded include:
- Dance in Devon, £20,550 over 2 years to deliver ‘All Aboard’, a new inclusive dance project for very young disabled and non-disabled children and their families.
- Discover Story Centre, Stratford, £30,988 over 2 years to expand the scope and scale its work with children 0-3 years old by creating 8 original story productions.
- The Paper Birds Theatre Company, £21,102 over 1 year to develop ‘In the Red’, a performing arts project for up to 60 young people, ages 11-18 to take place across SW England, in collaboration with 3 regional theatres.

The Rank Foundation – Pebble Grants Programme – Currently Closed until 2021
UK registered charities and recognised churches which are raising money for capital projects (building work, refurbishment or the purchase of long-term equipment) or a one-off short term activity (such as an annual respite break or holiday for disadvantaged young people) can apply for funding through the Rank Foundation – Pebble Small Grants programme.
To be eligible to apply the total project cost must be less than £150,000, the organisation must have an annual income of less than £500,000 and the organisation applying must already have raised a third of the total costs.
Applications can be submitted at any time. Please note that the Foundation do not publish deadlines or maximum amounts as this is dependent on the number of applications received.
Organisations can only apply once every 12 months regardless of the outcome of their application.

We made the difficult decision to suspend applications to our Covid-19 Response Fund (Small Grants) due to the incredibly high number of applications received. This also means decisions will take slightly longer than originally anticipated, but we’re doing our very best to respond to all those who applied as quickly as we can. You can expect to hear from us soon as we announce the first round of grantees.

Royal Society of Chemistry – Outreach Fund
Individuals and organisations such as researchers, museums, schools, community groups, not-for-profit organisations, arts groups and libraries can apply for grants of up to £10,000 to run chemistry-based events and activities for public audiences and in schools.
Applications for schools engagement activities should demonstrate how the proposed activities will:
- enrich student’s chemistry education and not solely deliver the curriculum
- provide students with opportunities to explore chemistry through local contexts, AND/OR
- demonstrate career opportunities and develop employability skills, AND/OR
- provide opportunities which would not normally be accessible to the students taking part, e.g for hard-to-reach student audiences.
Applications for public engagement activities should demonstrate how the proposed activities will:
- increase chemists’ visibility as approachable people AND/OR
- increase the publics’ confidence in discussing chemistry AND/OR
- demonstrate the relevance of chemistry to everyday interests and concerns.
The Outreach Fund is split into two categories: small grants – up to £5,000 and large grants – up to £10,000.
Previously funded projects include “Cool chemistry at the seaside” where the Society awarded a grant of £2,000 to volunteers in Ramsgate who transformed an empty town-centre shop into a makeshift theatre, delivering free chemistry demonstrations to anyone.
The closing date for applications to the small grants programmes is the 7th June 2021.

Screwfix Foundation Re-opened
The Screwfix Foundation has re-opened for applications from charities and not for profit organisations for projects that will fix, repair, maintain and improve the properties and community facilities of those in need by reason of financial hardship, sickness, disability, distress or other disadvantage throughout the UK.
Grants of up to £5,000 are available for all kinds of projects, from repairing buildings and improving facilities in deprived areas, to decorating the homes of people living with sickness and disabilities.
Applications can be made at any time and will be reviewed on a quarterly basis. The next closing date for applications is the 14th May 2021.
The Society Foundation
The Foundation offers grants to programmes or organisations that are seeking to help people from the following groups move towards paid employment:
- the recently homeless or vulnerably housed;
- 16-24 year olds not in employment, education or training.
We typically offer micro-grants of up to £1,500 to small or growing organisations with a turnover of up to £500,000. We provide funding for capacity building activities, including IT infrastructure and equipment, staff training and development, and external consultancy/support. This sort of funding isn’t particularly ‘sexy’, but we believe that it can play a transformative role by increasing the sustainability and effectiveness of organisations that are doing really vital work.
Our funding is in line with a few clear principles:
- we aim to work in partnership with the organisations we support, setting mutually agreed goals with clear timescales;
- we aim to keep the grant application process ‘light touch’ and accessible;
- we try to foster a relationship of trust and honesty with the organisations we fund;
- we never commit to a project unless we’re sure we have the funds to see it through.
Sylvia Waddilove Foundation UK – Currently suspended
In addition to our regular funding streams, which have been affected by the ongoing coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis, we’ve opened a £16.5m Return to Play Fund.
There are three parts to this new fund – Small Grants and the Community Asset Fund, which have been adapted from pre-coronavirus funds, and Active Together crowdfunding, which has been extended – with all three now focusing on a safe return to play and narrowing the inequalities gap in sport and physical activity.

Sport England Return to Play: Small Grants Programme
The Sport England Small Grants Programme has been set up to support local community sport projects which seek to increase participation, sustain participation or develop opportunities for people to excel at their chosen sport. For example, Sport England might provide a grant to a sports club to expand its age range by helping it to buy extra team kit or pay additional coaching fees. Or Sport England may help youth clubs work together with local sports clubs to get more young people playing sport. Not-for-profit clubs or associations, statutory bodies or educational establishments can apply for grants of between £300 and £10,000.

Sport England Return to Play: Community Asset Fund
Sports clubs, local authorities, schools, and community organisations can apply for grants of between £10,001 and £50,000 to help clubs and community groups through the ongoing coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic to return to play.
The Return to Play: Community Asset Fund provides capital funding, to help local sports clubs and organisations to adapt and open important places and spaces so people within their community can return to play and physical activity, safely. The focus is on responding to the immediate challenges of sports and physical activity returning to play.
Priority will be given to:
- Projects located in areas of high deprivation
- Organisations working with Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, people on lower incomes, disabled people, people with long-term health conditions and people experiencing a greater burden of care because of coronavirus.
- Organisations that don’t have a significant level of reserve funding available to utilise.

Standard Life Foundation – Grants to Support Work which Improves Financial Wellbeing
Charities, voluntary organisations, think tanks, campaigning groups, research bodies, and universities can apply for grants of between £10,000 and £200,000 for strategic work which improves financial wellbeing.
More specifically the Foundation is looking to support work that examines and promotes measures to:
- Increase incomes for those on low-to-middle incomes.
• Ensure people have an adequate safety net, building savings and assets.
• Reduce the cost of living, making sure those on lower incomes are not paying more.
• Address issues related to spending and borrowing, particularly where it becomes problematic
The Standard Life Foundation’s grant programme invites proposals from organisations across the UK seeking funding for policy work, campaigning and research focused on three areas that influence financial wellbeing:
These areas might include wages, pensions and taxation, gambling, borrowing and repayment problems, and savings.
Between 15 and 20 grants are awarded each year and priority is given to work focusing on younger generations.

Stop Loan Sharks Community Fund – Funding to Raise Awareness of the Dangers of Loan Sharks
Local residents, charities, community and voluntary groups, schools and statutory agencies can apply for grants of up to £5,000 for activities that highlight the dangers of Loan Sharks and have a positive impact on their communities.
The Illegal Money Lending Team encourages bids from multiple organisations working together who can each bid for £5000 to put towards a collective project.
The Stop Loan Sharks Community Fund is made available from money seized from convicted loan sharks by the England Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT). Organisations will need to demonstrate the positive impact their project would have on their community, and how their project contributes to delivering the IMLT’s priorities which include:
- Contributes to raising the awareness of the dangers of using loan sharks
- Prevents crime and disorder and publicises the Stop Loan Sharks message
- Promotes the work of the Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT) in communities
- Encourages reporting of loan sharks

The Tabhair Trust
The Tabhair Trust is passionate about nurturing small to medium sized charities in their aspirations to change communities and restore broken lives through providing opportunities for education, training and personal advancement.
We welcome applications from charities that combine support services with enterprising mission to improve social wellbeing and employment opportunities in the lives of the disengaged and disadvantaged.
Tabhair makes grants to charitable organisations and primarily supports projects undertaken in the UK and Ireland.
Grants are given to charitable organisations registered and working in the UK or Ireland that make requests that fall within our criteria for giving. We do not give grants to individuals or make general charitable contributions to other organisations.
Applications can be made for individual projects or core costs. Where core costs are requested, the maximum commitment considered would be 3 years.

Tesco Community Grants Open
The Tesco Bags of Help Programme has been relaunched as the Tesco Community Grants programme to support local good causes that focus on helping children and families across the UK.
Registered charities, voluntary and community organisations, schools, parish/town councils and other not-for-profit organisations can apply for grants of £500, £1,000 or £1,500. Three projects from each local area will be shortlisted to go to the public vote by Tesco customers every three months, with grants awarded depending on the number of votes their project receives.
Examples of eligible applications with a focus on supporting children and families could be;
- a local school needing food for a children’s breakfast club,
- a voluntary organisation working with families to run holiday clubs,
- a charity supporting young people with specialist advice to manage mental health,
- a brownie or scout group needing new tents,
- or a youth sports club needing new equipment,
- a family advice centre wanting to recruit more volunteers,
- or a local friends of a park group wanting to develop a new toddler area.
The fund will be administered by Groundwork and applications can be made at any time.
Support for Theatre professionals
Theatre Improvements Capital Grants
Theatre Operators can apply for grants of up to £20,000 to improve the environmental sustainability of their theatres.
The Theatre Improvement Scheme can support a range of projects that consider different ways theatre buildings can reduce their environmental impact. This might range from building management systems to more efficient water heaters, or a green roof to new windows.
To be eligible to apply to the scheme, applicants must demonstrate that they:
- own or manage theatres with titles or signed leases of more than 5 years on buildings in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
- run a year-round programme of live performance, of no less than 30 performances a year
- have a bona fide UK charitable or not-for-profit legal structure and be able to provide certified or audited accounts for at least two years
- operate theatres that achieve excellence through their producing and programming or architectural significance
The funding is being made available through the Theatres Trust in partnership with the Wolfson Foundation and the closing date for applications is 12 noon on the 6th September 2021.
Thomas Wall Trust – Funding to Increase the Digital Skills of People Aged 18 & Over (Closing date 25th June)
The Thomas Wall Trust has opened the latest round of their Digital Skills Programme to equip adults with basic digital skills for work and life.
Charities and other not-for-profit organisations with an annual turnover of less than £500,000 can apply for grants of up to £5,000 for projects working with disadvantaged people aged 18 or over to improve their basic digital skills in order to increase their employment prospects within the UK.
Priority will be given to match-funded projects and organisations working in collaborative networks.
The deadline for expressions of interest is the 25th June 2021.
Thomas Wall Trust – Funding for Projects to Increase Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Skills (Closing date 3rd September)
Grants of up to £5,000 are available to registered charities to assist with specific projects or core activities that support literacy, numeracy, digital and additional skills for people aged 11 or older in order to increase their employment prospects within the UK.
The funding is being made available through the Thomas Wall Trust.
To be eligible the applicants must:
- Be a UK charity that has been registered with the Charity Commission for at least 3 years
- Be a project or running costs for a charity that equips people (aged 11 and over) with the skills ready for employment
- Have an annual turnover of less than £500,000
Annual repeat funding for up to 3 years – subject to satisfactory annual reviews of progress and impact
The deadline for submitting expressions of interest is the 3rd September 2021. Grants will be awarded in November 2021.
Toy Trust – Funding to Support Disabled & Disadvantaged Children (Closing date 30th June)
Grants of up to £5,000 are available to registered charities to fund equipment and services to support disabled and disadvantaged children under the age of 13 across the UK.
The Toy Trust fund:
- helps disadvantaged children and their families to alleviate suffering;
- supports children through awful experiences;
- encourages achievement through adversity;
- purchases vital equipment;
- provides care;
- bolsters existing initiatives;
- initiates brand new projects;
- and satisfies basic needs.
Groups that have carried out some form of effective fundraising by themselves are particularly encouraged to apply.
The next deadline to apply is the 30th June 2021.
Toyota Parasport Fund (Closing date 31st May)
In order to support disabled people to return to sport or activity as and when Coronavirus restrictions allow, Sport England, in partnership with Toyota and the British Paralympic Association have launched a new round of their Toyota Parasport Fund.
£200,000 in funding will be available to help registered charities, voluntary or community clubs, and other not-for-profit organisations to support disabled adults and young people aged five or over to return to previously run activities, or to enable previous projects to adapt to resume delivery when the relaxing of coronavirus restrictions allow them to do so.
Funding of between £1,000 and £5,000 could be used for additional sports equipment, signage, sanitation stations, training courses or additional coaches and instructors etc.
The deadline for applications is 5pm on the 31st May 2021.

Ubele Initiative Funding to Build Resilience in Charities & Social Enterprises Serving Black & Ethnic Minority Communities Opens 1st June – 29th June
The Ubele Initiative has joined Social Investment Business’s £12.5m Enterprise Development Programme as the Black and Minoritised Communities sector partner.
Charities and social enterprises serving black and ethnic minority communities will now be able to apply for grants typically worth up to £30,000 along with support from the Black and Minoritised Communities Enterprise Development Programme which aims to build resilience in organisations and help them to develop their trading plans.
Organisations apply onto the programme and, if accepted, work alongside the relevant sector-lead to outline a package of support that best fits with their specific needs.
Applications can be made between the 1st June 2021 and the 29th June 2021.
UK Community Renewal Fund
To help local areas prepare for the launch of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in 2022, the Government has launched a one-year UK pilot Community Renewal Fund. The £220 million fund will support local communities most in need, by piloting programmes and new approaches that empower them to explore how best to tackle local challenges– whether through building skills, supporting local businesses, supporting communities and places, or providing employment support. All places across the UK are eligible for pilot funding.
Bids for the UK Community Renewal Fund will be managed by the following lead authorities:
- Mayoral Combined Authorities, where they exist in England
- The Greater London Authority
- County Councils
- Unitary authorities elsewhere in England and in Scotland and Wales
To ensure the funding reaches the most in need, 100 priority places have been identified. The lead authority of each of the 100 priority places will also receive capacity funding to help them invite bids locally and appraise these bids. Each lead authority will receive £20,000 per priority place. This funding can be incurred from April 2021 for staff or other resources needed to coordinate and appraise bids. It will be paid to lead authorities in the summer and will be paid regardless of whether bids are successful.
The fund is competitive and each local authority can bid up to a maximum of £3million in funding to help build a safer, greener and more prosperous country. Separate guidance will be made available for each lead authority.
A different approach will be taken for Northern Ireland, where UK government will run a national competition against a fixed national allocation. All areas in Northern Ireland are eligible for funding and applicants will be able to apply directly to UK government. This will equate to £11 million of funding.
The shortlist of projects should be submitted by lead authorities to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government by noon on Friday 18 June 2021 by emailing UKCommunityRenewalFund@communities.gov.uk.
Urban Tree Challenge Fund – Funding for Tree Planting Projects in Urban & Peri-Urban Areas
The Urban Tree Challenge Fund has re-opened to applications from community and volunteer groups as well as Town Councils and individuals for tree planting projects in cities and towns across England.
This third round of funding is open to applications from:
- small organisations or community groups for between £10,000 and £30,000 for smaller, focused areas of planting;
- block bids of over £250,000 with no upper limit to enable multiple projects that are either geographically dispersed or focused in one area to be submitted under one application.
The fund provides 50% of standard costs for planting and establishment. The remaining 50% must be met through match funding.

Veolia Environmental Trust Grants have Reopened
Our Community Grant Scheme is available to constituted not-for-profit organisations and local authorities. Grants of between £10,000 and £75,000 are available to create or improve buildings or outside spaces for the benefit of the community.
The next round of funding is open from 13th May, closing 15th July for a decision in September.
Volant Trust Announces Launch of Covid-19 Response Fund (Opened 1st August)
The Volant Trust has opened its Covid-19 Response Fund. The Trust is accepting applications from registered charities, community interest companies, community organisations or social enterprises in the UK and internationally that demonstrate a strong focus on alleviating social deprivation and helping vulnerable groups who have been particularly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Funding is available to support running and core costs as well as for medical equipment and the production or distribution of PPE will also be considered.
There are no funding levels indicated at the award of grants will be at the discretion of the Trustees.
To receive a decision by October 2021 applications must be submitted between 1st January and 31st July 2021.
Windrush Community Fund
Community group, charities and grass root organisations can apply for funding to raise awareness of the Windrush Scheme, the Windrush Compensation Scheme or both.
A total of £500,000 is available; and eligible organisations can apply for grants of between £2,500 and £25,000 for activities including:
- holding events;
- producing and distributing marketing materials;
- accessing and using communication channels;
- and securing support from partners.
The funding is being made available through the Home Office and managed by Voice4Change England.
There is a two-phase application process. Phase 1 applications closed on 12th February 2021. Phase 2 applications opened on the 1st April 2021 and closes on the 30th June 2021. The Wingate Foundation has announced that the next deadline to apply is the 9th June 2021.
The Foundation supports projects, institutions and activities in the following areas:

Applications are invited from smaller charitable organisations only; the Trustees will not consider approaches from large charities who are well represented on the High Street or their local branch offices.
Previous projects supported include:
- £5,000 per year for 3 years to Little Angel Theatre as support for Little Angel Studios, a new building dedicated to education, community and outreach work.
- £3,250 to The Voices Foundation for 1-Year Foundation Programme in a cluster of five schools in Essex to ensure that every child irrespective of ability, means or background has access to high quality music education through singing and the use of equipment
- £6,000 a year for three years to Anne Frank Trust UK to fund educational work in three schools.
Applicants need to detail how the funding they are seeking can be used under the constraints of the current HM Govt Coronavirus (COVID-19) guidance for the sector.
Wolfson Foundation – Funding for Charities Working with Older People
Grants of between £15,000 and £75,000 are available to charitable organisations which provide care and services for older people, particularly if they have a neurodegenerative condition or are isolated.
The Wolfson Foundation will provide funding for new build, refurbishment or equipment projects which aim to:
- Increase access to services for new and existing users
- Improve the quality and range of services
- Improve the financial stability of the organisation
Match funding is required for projects costing more than £50,000.
There is a 2-stage application process and the next stage 1 closing date is the 1st July 2021. The Woodward Charitable Trust primarily funds charitable organisations (charities, social enterprises and community interest companies) in the UK and can make grants for overseas projects usually via UK charities. Priority is given to projects that make good use of volunteers, encourage past and current users to participate, ensure that funds awarded are being well used and fall within the following areas:
- Children and young people who are isolated, at risk of exclusion or involved in anti-social behaviour. This covers gang violence and knife crime, education and mentoring as well as projects that work to raise self-esteem and employment opportunities and encourage an active involvement in and contribution towards the local community;
- Disadvantaged families, this covers parenting support and guidance, mental health, food poverty, refuges and domestic violence projects and would also include projects that benefit travellers, ethnic minorities and refugee families;
- Prisoners and ex-offenders and specifically projects that maintain and develop contact with prisoner’s families and help with the rehabilitation and resettlement of prisoners and/or ex-offenders after their release.
Three types of grant are awarded:
- Small grants (under £3,000)
- Large grants (over £3,000) – these are usually given to charities known by the Trustees

We offer grants only to registered charities with a total annual expenditure of less than £40,000.
Youth Endowment Fund New £20 Million Fund to Divert Young People from Violence
A new £20 million fund has been launched to evaluate different diversion approaches that work best at preventing 10 to 17-year-olds in England and Wales from becoming involved in violence.
The funding is being made available through the Youth Endowment Fund’s – Another chance – Diversion from the criminal justice system – themed funding round. Diversion approaches could include mental health support, whole family interventions or mentoring (for example).
The Youth Endowment Fund is aiming to identify around 10-20 programmes that are ready for robust impact evaluation or could be supported to reach this point within two years.
The funding is available to any organisation – including charities, public services or the private sector – that receive referrals from a relevant statutory service (for example, the police, schools, local youth offending team or social care).
The fund will be open for applications between the 19th April and 14th May 2021.
Youth Music Network Funding for Music Making Projects for Young People in Challenging Circumstances
Organisations – including Schools and Education Trusts- working with children and young people that are disadvantaged, disabled or face other barriers to music education. can apply for grants of between £30,001 and £150,000 for music-making projects.
Funding is also available for workforce and organisational development activities to promote a relevant, diverse, and inclusive music offer for all children and young people
Projects should be co-designed by children/young people, and support one or more of Youth Music’s priority areas. These are:
- Early years
- Disabled young people
- Young adults
- Youth justice system
- Young people facing barriers
- Organisations and the workforce
Organisations that are applying for a schools-based programme for pupils at Key Stage 1 or above, please note that Youth Music will not fund the following:
- Whole class tuition on the same instrument or group of instruments (e.g. strings)
- Individual tuition fees for young people to learn an instrument
- Work in secondary schools where there is no employed music teacher.
- Music curriculum activities that could be supported through Department for Education funding
- GCSE Music or A-Level Music

Youth Music Network Incubator Fund – Funding to Open Career Opportunities for Young People in the Music Industry
Grants of between £5,000 and £30,000 are available to businesses, collectives, and not-for-profit organisations working in the music industries to help open up sustainable work opportunities and careers in music for young people aged 18-25. In particular for projects focusing on under-represented groups; and to support creative employers to innovate and incubate new and diverse talent.
This includes both musicians and those who want to work in wider industry roles.
At least 50% of the funding should go directly to the 18-25s, with the remainder paying for organisational and delivery costs.
The funding is being made available through round three of the Youth Music Network Incubator Fund and is available to organisations that are based in the UK and operate in Scotland, England or Wales.

Funding for Christian Projects Focusing on Improving Young Peoples Lives
Grants of up to £25,000 are now available to churches and Christian organisations to help them connect with children and young people and forge lasting links with families in their area. Support is available for projects that focus on improving the lives of young people (aged 0-18) and encouraging church growth as young people discover faith for themselves and begin to play an active part in church communities.
Examples of the types of items that can be funded include:
- Musical instruments for a junior choir;
- Soft play sessions for toddlers and;
- Transforming an under used room into a chill out zone for young people.
The funding has been made available by the Allchurches Trust under the Growing Lives programme. Applications are accepted at any time. Every application is reviewed by Trustees and a decision communicated within three to six months. https://www.allchurches.co.uk/growinglives
Funding to Support the Most At-Risk Young People Affected by the Covid-19 Crisis
The 7stars foundation exists to support the most challenged, at-risk young people in the United Kingdom. In July The Foundation is launching an unrestricted Charity Support Fund for UK charities with a turnover of less than £1.5m, who are working with at-risk young people affected by the covid-19 crisis.
The funding will be made available across the themes of
- and for those who are supporting young child carers.
The charity is offering grants of up to £2,500, which can be used for overheads, salary costs, and/ or wherever else the organisation needs to apply the money to ensure its survival and sustainable services in the future.

- Project grants to charities aligned to our funding prioritises and age ranges.
- Shine Bright funding for regional charities during the Covid-19 pandemic.
- Direct grant funding to individuals supported by outreach/social/care workers or legal professionals (applications must be submitted by the supporting professional).
