A further group of businesses can now apply for funding aimed at helping those businesses whose finances have been badly hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
Southend Borough Council Business Grants to support 30% of costs for Business Growth Initiatives
The South East Business Boost (SEBB) programme has secured further funding to extend the delivery of business grants to Small Medium Enterprises(SME’s). These grants are non repayable and cover 30% of the costs incurred by a business to implement business developments that will generate business growth and employment. Applications must be made and approved before costs can be incurred.
From 15th June 2020, the popular 30% Growth Grant of between £1,000 and £10,000 can be accessed by Essex SMEs who have not received any other type of support from the SEBB programme to date.
- WHAT IS THE GROWTH GRANT?
- A 30% Grant for eligible Essex SMEs who are in the position to or are planning to carry out a Growth project.
- WHO CAN ACCESS THE GROWTH GRANT?
- The Growth Grant is available to support eligible small to medium enterprises and trading sole traders whohave not previously received support via the SEBB programme and require funding for their specific eligible Growth project.
- HOW MUCH GROWTH GRANT FUNDING CAN ELIGIBLE SMEs ACCESS?
- The total Growth Projectcost must be between a minimum of £3,333 and a maximum of £35,000. The SME would self-fund 70% of the project cost and the Growth Grant would fund the remaining 30% from a minimum of £1,000 to a maximum of £10,000.

Shared Space stores have restarted their Boost Fund Grants.
Each charity shop awards £150/month to a local group or organisation typically within two miles of the premises. The Shared Space shops are looking to fund creativity, life giving activities, and things that injects a positive vibe into the local community.
Beneficiaries of grants will predominantly be people in low income ‘households’ or activities benefiting those people.
Organisations do not need to be formally constituted to apply and can do so once a year and will normally not have received a grant from Southend Emergency Fund which is another grant programme under the auspices of Shared Space.

Southend Emergency Fund – Open for donations
We have created an emergency fund so the most vulnerable, in the Southend borough, anywhere from Leigh to Shoebury, can obtain the financial help they need to get them through this difficult time. We will be using existing organisations, agencies, community groups and charities, who are already in touch with the most at risk. This will be the fastest way to get help to where it is needed and minimise abuse of the system. We will be able to direct the funds to which ever channels are able to remain open to support those needing help.
Essex Community Foundation – Coronavirus Response and Recovery Programme
Grants of up to £15,000 are available through the Essex Coronavirus Response and Recovery Programme to help voluntary and community organisations that are in crisis as a result of the pandemic and need emergency funding to keep vital services running. Priority will be given to those delivering vital services to older and vulnerable people, organisations helping to relieve pressure on public services and those co-ordinating a local community response.

LATEST COVID 19 Update (09/06/20)
We are still receiving a large number of applications for Emergency funding during these troubled times. I am reporting these back to the Trustees at regular ‘remote’ meetings. Very urgent cases are considered immediately.
Following the latest Emergency meeting, we have been able to offer nearly £50,000 between many local charities and groups (nearly £150,000 since the pandemic began). ECF and the Lottery have both allocated significant funds to help with the immediate effects of the Pandemic, and are continuing their support at this critical time.
However, the Trustees recognise the potential problems which may now arise as communities begin to ease out of the current Lockdown restrictions. The focus of this is for vulnerable children, families and the isolated elderly.

Leigh-on-Sea Town Council Coronavirus Emergency Community Fund
Leigh-on-Sea Town Council’s Coronavirus Emergency Community Fund. £10,000 has currently been set aside for the fund, from an existing volunteer programme but Council will consider further funding in due course if necessary.
External not-for-profits groups/organisations along with charities, are welcome to apply for grants from £250 up to £1000, to directly help support residents within Leigh. Additional applications can also be made again where proof of expenditure is provided.
Applications cannot be considered from political parties, commercial organisations or for projects that benefit individuals, private businesses, projects that fall outside the Town Council remit, or those that improve private land or property.
Grants will be reviewed within one week of being received by a panel of Councillors.

South East Creative Grants for businesses
We know that many businesses in the creative sector, as with many others, are finding this an extremely difficult time. South East Creatives has been supporting companies to develop their businesses and we will try to continue to do this. We have found ways to move many of our workshops and mentoring programme online so that they can be accessed remotely. We will also continue to offer our Top-up and larger grants.
The grants can be used to buy new equipment, to work with a consultant, perhaps on a new website or for training. For top up projects of between £3000 to £4000 it’s a simple application process to get back 35 per cent of your spend as a grant. For example, a £3000 spend would give you a £1050 grant. We can also support larger grants up to a value of £20,000.
We appreciate that for many people this is a time of trying to stay safe and struggling with loss of income, so developing your business may not be your top priority.

Charities Aid Foundation Launches Coronavirus Emergency Fund (UK) – Currently paused to new applications
The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) has launched a new Coronavirus Emergency Fund. Through this fund smaller charities, not for profit organisations, social enterprises and unregistered community groups can apply for grants of up to £10,000 to help them to continue to deliver much needed support to within their communities. The funding is available to help with core costs, staffing, volunteer costs, supplies and equipment, communications or other critical charitable areas. A Better Start Community Ideas and Development Fund Opening 28th September

African Health Policy Network Funding to Support the Wellbeing, Resilience, and Sustainability of BAME Communities Following Covid-19 (Closing date 30th October)
Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) led charities, voluntary or community groups and organisations, and faith groups across the UK can apply for funding to help them continue to respond to the needs of their community during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The African Health Policy Network are making three levels of funding available of between £500 and £100,000 to help small and medium Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups and their communities build wellbeing, resilience and capacity following the pandemic. The amount awarded will be dependent on annual income for each group/organisation and can be used for:
Project staff salaries
- Project activities
- Engagement activities
- Running costs
- Project equipment

Alpkit Foundation Funding to Support Grassroots Organisations During the Coronavirus
In response to the coronavirus, The Alpkit Foundation are prioritising funding to support projects that demonstrate an immediate impact on those affected by the crisis.
Grants are available to grassroots organisations serving those affected by the outbreak. Funding can provide support for activities which might include
- helping vulnerable and elderly people who are self-isolating,
- supporting the homeless,
- providing access to food, medicines or social care,
- supporting foodbanks,
- increasing the number of meals on wheels deliveries,
- bringing exercise indoors.
Applications up to £500 can be made at any time and will be checked on a daily basis.
Anglian Water is working with fifteen Community Foundations in the East of England, East Midland and Yorkshire to allocate their £1million Positive Difference Fund to support communities affected by the covid-19 pandemic. Charities and community organisations who are supporting vulnerable people who are isolated, considered high risk and in need of practical support can apply to their local Community Foundation. Half of the fund is being made available immediately, with the remaining half released later in the year to meet emerging needs from the fallout from the pandemic. Eligible organisations will be able to apply to their local Community Foundation for grants of up to £5,000. Projects could include support for foodbanks, services which tackles homelessness, and which provide groceries and/or ready-made meals. Aviva Grants of up to £50,000 Available for Community Projects (Closing date 13th October)
Aviva has launched the next round of its Community Fund. Aviva has teamed up with the fundraising platform Crowdfunder to offer funding of up to £50,000 to small charities and community interest groups in the UK with innovative ideas that benefit their community. Every three months from January 2020 onwards, £250,000 will be split equally among Aviva’s UK employees to donate to the projects that matter to them most.
Aviva want to support projects that boost the resilience of communities in the face of uncertainty and will be supporting projects in two key areas:
- Community resilience: tackling inequality and improving environments by building inclusive and resilient
- Financial capability and inclusion: promoting financially inclusive communities, where people can better manage
their finances and avoid problem debt
To take part the project must also be raising funds to develop a new approach, product or technology, pilot a new scheme, implement a new initiative, or expand existing services to a new area or beneficiary group. All beneficiaries must be in the UK.
The next closing date to apply to the Aviva Community Fund is the 13th October 2020.
Once applications have been submitted, applicants will need to create a fundraising page on Crowdfunder that Aviva employees can browse and donate funds to. Applicants can also showcase their projects to raise additional public donations. https://www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/
The Barclays Foundation – COVID-19 Community Aid Package
The Barclays Foundation have announced a £100 million COVID-19 Community Aid Package – The package consists of two strands. £50million will be donated to charities chosen by Barclays and £50million will be donated by matching their employees’ personal donations (individual organisations cannot apply for this funding. The money will be disbursed principally in the UK. barclayscovid-19-community-aid-package/
British Red Cross Launches Hardship Fund
The British Red Cross are providing financial support to help the most vulnerable financially impacted by the covid-19 crisis. The British Red Cross Hardship Fund provides short term financial help for individuals who can’t afford essentials such as
- Food and toiletries
- Somewhere safe to sleep,
- Access to a telephone and the internet
- Fuel to keep the lights on, cook or stay warm
The fund aims to help people who can’t afford the essentials because they have:
- No income or welfare support
- Delays to accessing income or welfare support
The money will be delivered on a pre-paid card by either a one-off payment of £120 or a three-month grant of £360 which will be paid in three monthly instalments of £120. Families with children or other dependents can receive up to three grants, for a total of £1,080 over the three months.
The British Reds Cross will be working with statutory and voluntary partner organisations to ensure we are helping the people in greatest need but will only accept referrals from official Referral Partners who are registered with the Hardship Fund. https://hardshipfund.redcross.org.uk/
Childs Charitable Trust
The Childs Charitable Trust is a grant-making trust, supporting Christian UK registered and excepted charities and organisations both in the UK and overseas. During 2017 the Trust awarded grants to 81 different organisations all based in the UK but operating in more than 100 different countries worldwide.
Projects will be considered that fall into the following categories:
- Youth – the trust looks to support projects working in schools and with vulnerable and disengaged young people in the UK. Supported activities may include RE Lessons; School Assemblies; Lunchtime/After school clubs; Evangelism; Personal Development Programmes; Homelessness Prevention.
- Outreach – the trust works to share the gospel of Christ by supporting all aspects of Christian outreach both in the UK and overseas and can fund, for example, Church Plants; Overseas Mission; Training in Evangelism; Chaplaincy.
- Society – the trust believes people of faith bring a valuable contribution to social action and justice and support initiatives that have a positive impact in their society. Grants could support, for example: Counselling; night shelters; alcohol/drug rehabilitation; homelessness; or prison/ex-offenders work.
- Education – the trust supports initiatives involved in all areas of Christian education including Bible Translation; Media Initiatives; Bible Colleges; Literature; Apologetics.
Applicants must be registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator or the Charity Commission of Northern Ireland or be ‘excepted’ charities. Organisations with a turnover in excess of £5,000,000 should contact the office prior to submitting an application, to check eligibility.
No minimum or maximum funding amounts are specified, however in 2017, 16 grants of between £5,000 and £9,999, 18 grants of between £3,000 and £4,999 and 34 grants not exceeding £2,999 were made. Nine other grants ranging from £12,000 to £34,000 were also awarded.
Please note that in view of the present Coronavirus pandemic and international financial instability, the trustees are having to critically review all applications with regard to the financial viability of both the organisation and project. Applications for funding should not be made if the project in question has been postponed or is likely to be cancelled.

Co-op Group Covid-19 fund to support communities
The Co-op Group has launched a Members’ Coronavirus Fund to support foodbanks, a funeral hardship fund and community causes.

Some of the money that is raised through Sport Relief 2020 will go to organisations on the frontline of the response to the Coronavirus, who are able to reach some of the most vulnerable people, likely to be affected. Comic Relief Community Fund Launched
Comic Relief has launched its Community Fund. Grassroots community organisations with an income of less than £250,000 can apply for funding to help them develop their organisation through a Capacity Building Grant of up to £500 or to deliver projects through a Project Delivery Grant of up to £4,000.
The grants available to organisations whose work delivers on one of Comic Relief’s four strategic themes:
- Children Survive & Thrive: projects that support children under the age of 5 to reach their potential and have the best start in life.
- Fighting for Gender Justice: projects that improve equality for women and girls and initiatives that help people affected by domestic violence, abuse or exploitation due to their gender or sexuality.
- A Safe Place to Be: projects that support people who are rebuilding their lives because of homelessness or forced migration.
- Mental Health Matters: projects that support good mental health in communities, improve access to support and tackle stigma and discrimination.
This new funding programme aims deliver long lasting community driven change.
Both funding programmes accept applications on a rolling basis and there are no application deadlines.

Common Call Grants Programme
Grants of between £1,000 and £3,000 are available to UK based social organisations led by people that identify as Black or Mixed with Black that have a positive impact on deprived communities and are providing services to people that have been adversely affected by the COVID crisis in terms of physical health, mental health and/or financially.
The grants are specifically aimed at supporting Black-led social enterprises and charities so that they are able to survive and even thrive in the COVID period.
The funding aims help grantees:
- Get better informed about their options (moving to new methods of delivery) post-COVID19.
- Develop new enterprising activities and earned income strategies.
- Test the viability of specific propositions.
- Develop clear implementable action plans for such activity.
This is a flexible fund that can be spent on anything that will help organisations best deliver impact to their beneficiaries. The funding is being made available by Do it Now Now’s Common Call Covid Fund.

The Community Safety Development Fund Suspended
Unfortunately, the outbreak of COVID-19 has had an impact on the voluntary sector and impacted the most vulnerable in our communities. In response to this Essex Community Foundation has created the Essex Coronavirus Response and Recovery Programme to help organisations during this difficult time. The purpose of this programme is to provide financial support to organisations helping to relieve pressure on public service and those co-ordinating a local community support.
In order to support the fund we will be allocating £150,000 from the 20-21 Community Safety Development Fund to the Essex Coronavirus Response and Recovery Programme

Emergency Funding to Help Young Refugees and Asylum Seekers Affected by the Coronavirus (Currently paused)
In response to the coronavirus, Hope for the Young have launched a Covid-19 Emergency Relief Fund to support vulnerable young refugees or asylum seekers up to 30 years of age who are in need of immediate financial support.
Grants of up to £250 will be available for up to twelve weeks and will be allocated on a case by case basis to help relieve social isolation and financial hardship. Funding is available to help with costs such as purchasing food, medication and toiletries, and essential utilities.
The fund is open to external applications, however, in the first instance, priority will be given to young people receiving support from the Hope for the Young who meet the fund criteria. Hope for the Young aims to respond to all applications within one week of receipt to discuss the application further.

Fat Beehive Foundation – Funding to Improve Online Digital Presence for Small Charities
UK charities can apply for funding of up to £2,500 to help them improve their online digital presence. The Fat Beehive Foundation awards small grants to charities with an average income of less than £1 million a year to support hard-to-fund digital expenditure that other funders will often not cover.
Funding will help organisations to build websites and apps, digitise services, and purchase digital products. Priority will be given to projects which focus on
- environmental protection or climate change mitigation,
- human rights,
- international development,
- equality and diversity,
- social justice / refugees / housing,
- art and culture,
- health and wellbeing,
- prisoner rehabilitation.

Ford Britain Trust Grants Programme Re-opens for Applications
The Ford Britain Trust’s large grants programme has re-opened for applications until the 31st January 2021. Through the large grants programme registered charities, Schools/PTAs (Non-fee paying, state sector schools only) and non-profit organisations can apply for grants of between £250 and £3,000 for projects that:
- Benefit the local community/environment;
- Work with young people/children;
- Promote education/schools (mainstream) as well as special school
- Promotes the teaching of Engineering
- Support special educational needs and people with disabilities.
Grant applications will be considered for projects being undertaken/expenditure being made in all UK postcodes however locations near Ford Motor Company Limited / FCE Bank plc UK operations are given a higher weighting.
- Essex (including East London)
- Bridgend (South Wales)
Exceptions may be made for initiatives in which Ford Motor Company Limited employees and retirees are involved. Grants made by the Trust are usually one-off donations for a specific capital project or part of a project, typically items of furniture and equipment.

The Foyle Foundation – Small Grants Scheme
The Foyle Foundation has re-opened its Small Grants Scheme to support smaller, grass-roots and local charities across the UK during the Covid-19 crisis. Organisations which are currently delivering services to the young, vulnerable, elderly, disadvantaged or the general community either directly or through online support can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £10,000. Funding can be used to cover core costs or essential equipment, to enable ongoing service provision, homeworking, or delivery of online digital services for charities with a turnover of less than £150,000 per annum that can show financial stability and a clear need for their services. Competition for funding is expected to be strong. Applications can be submitted at any time.
Foyle Foundation Re-opens its Main Grants Programme
The Foyle Foundation, which is one of the UK’s largest grant making charity, has announced that its Main Grants Programme has re-opened for applications to support charities with a core remit of the Arts or Learning.
Within the Arts programme, the Foundation seeks applications that make a strong artistic case for support in either the performing or visual arts. The Foundations seeks to support organisations to stabilize and recover from the impact of Coronavirus.
Within the Learning programme, the Foundation will support projects which facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and learning and which have a long-term strategic impact. Key areas for support are libraries, museums and archives; special educational needs; projects that encourage sustainability by reducing overheads or which help generate additional revenue. This might include environmental improvements to save energy and lower carbon emissions where a cost benefit can be demonstrated; projects and activities which increase access and widen the diversity of attenders/visitors.
In light of the uncertainty caused by the pandemic, the Foundation has revised its criteria and will change to make one-year grants only (no multi-year grants) to charities that can demonstrate ongoing financial stability for the next 12 months from the date of their application. In addition, more grants will be available to cover core costs, favouring those charities with no, or without significant, public funding.

Grants of up to £1,000 are available to registered charities and non-profit organisations who work to improve the education and physical and emotional wellbeing of children.

John Lewis new community support fund
A £1m Community Support Fund will be available to communities across the UK to help those in need in their local communities. Teams in each shop will work together with their communities to choose the best way to use the fund. Help could include setting up additional local delivery services to support the self-isolating, the vulnerable, the elderly and those looking after them; delivering boxes of staples to local care homes and community groups, and donating products to create care packages for customers to share with vulnerable neighbours.
Kennel Club Grants
£10 Million Package to Help Kick Start Tourism in Time for the Summer
Grants of up to £5,000 will be made available to small businesses in tourist destinations across England to help them adapt their businesses following the coronavirus pandemic.
As part of the government’s drive to boost the recovery of the economy, funding will be distributed immediately from its new £10 million Kick-starting Tourism Package to help kick start tourism in time for the summer.
Funding will be allocated to Local Growth Hubs based on how much of their employment base is linked to tourism and hospitality businesses, and can be used to pay for specialist professional advice such as human resources, legal or financial expertise, to adopt new technology and online systems, or to purchase new equipment.
The Kick-Starting Tourism Package is supported by the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014 to 2020.
New Fund Launched to Support LGBT Communities Affected by Covid-19
A new £350,000 funding scheme has been launched to address the additional needs of LGBT+ people and communities most adversely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and to support and strengthen LGBT+ organisations that have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The funding is available to any UK based non-profit groups, organisations or projects that work with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans + (LGBT+) people.
Eligible organisations can apply through two funding programmes:
- Small grants programme for grants up to £5,000
- Main Grants programme for grants of between £5,001 and £15,00
The grants are likely to be awarded towards ongoing work, core costs and additional work which strengthens the position of organisations and their ability to respond to community needs at this challenging time.
The funding is being made available through the LGBT+ Futures Grant Programme and is financially supported by the National Emergencies Trust.

Leaders with Lived Experience 2020 Programme Opens for Applications
The Leaders with Lived Experience 2020 Programme provides National Lottery grants of between £20,000 and £50,000 to support charities, voluntary and community groups run by people with first-hand experience of a social issue to share those experiences and play a key role in shaping how communities move towards recovery and renewal after the impact of COVID-19.
This funding will support lived experience leadership, and make sure lived experience plays a key role in shaping how communities move towards recovery and renewal after the impact of COVID-19.
Funding is available for up to two years and can be used to either focus on the immediate response to the COVID-19 crisis, or help communities recover, renew and become more sustainable after the impact of COVID-19, or both.
The National Lottery Community Fund expects to fund between 30 and 40 projects.
The programme will fund a wide range of items including:
- one-off events,
- staff and training costs,
- transport, utilities/running costs,
- volunteer expenses.

Magic Little Grants 2020 (Closing date 31st October)
Online fundraising platform Localgiving, together with the Postcode Community Trust have announced that this year’s Magic Little Grants grants programme is open for applications. Small charities and community groups can apply for grants of up to £500 to support and inspire people to participate in sports or exercise.
To be eligible applicant organisations will need to have an annual income of below £250,000 or be in their first year of operation. A total of 900 grants will be available.
Localgiving members will be able to complete the 10-minute application process via their charity account on the Localgiving website.
Organisations who are not members of Localgiving will also benefit from an annual membership funded by Postcode Community Trust, which will provide them with access to Localgiving’s suite of online fundraising tools.

Marsh Christian Trust Grants to Cover Running Costs for Small Charities
The Marsh Christian Trust was founded in 1981 with the sum of £75,000 by its current Chairman, Mr Brian Marsh OBE. His aim was to create a sustainable way to give something back to society by supporting organisations and people who are making a difference.
The Trust supports around 300 charities every year and focuses on providing funding which could help small organisations pay for various running costs, such as volunteer expenses, training days, equipment maintenance and other core outgoings. The Trust aims to build long-standing relationships with successful applicants and, subject to an annual review, continue its support over time.
Applicants must be a registered charity with the Charity Commission for England and Wales or the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator. This does not include Community Interest Companies (CICs). Charities will be working in the areas of:
- Arts and heritage
- Social welfare
- Environmental causes and animal welfare
- Education and training
Charities must have been established for more than one financial year and able to provide a full set of their most recent Annual Report and Accounts, or the equivalent financial information if their annual income is under £25,000.
Grants are unrestricted and range from £300 to £2,000 with new applications at the lower end of this scale.
Applications are considered on the basis of the organisation’s financial position, performance against charitable aims and objectives and the ratio of voluntary income against fundraising expenses.

Association of Mental Health Providers – Mental Health Response Fund
The Department of Health and Social Care has made £5 million available to support voluntary and community sector (VCS) mental health providers which are experiencing an increase in demand for their services due to coronavirus. Through the Coronavirus Mental Health Response Fund, small and large grants of between £5,000 and £50,000 are available to help increase mental support for people with and at risk of developing mental health problems.
Music for All Extends Application Deadline to 1st November 2020
Grants are available to UK based community groups and schools who would benefit from a “helping hand” to bring music to their community and fulfil their potential in becoming truly sustainable music programmes.
The funding which is being made available by the charity Music for All, can be put towards musical instrument costs, workshops/training, using music to break down barriers, providing a variety of educational opportunities as well as helping to find ways to integrate many diverse and minority groups positively into society. Grants of up to £2,500 are available, but due to increased demand most awards will be for less than this amount.

National Churches Trust Maintenance Grants for Churches
Churches can apply for grants of up to £500 (excl. VAT) towards the cost of building’s maintenance services. The grant will cover up to 50% of the cost of works.
Churches are only eligible to apply for a Preventative Maintenance Micro-Grant if they book one of the following services through the Maintenance Booker website:
- Rainwater goods maintenance;
- Lightning protection system repairs;
- Asbestos removal;
- Masonry repairs and high-level maintenance.
The National Churches Trust accepts applications from listed and unlisted churches, chapels and meeting houses of any age, as long as they are open for regular public worship and are located within an area covered by Maintenance Booker services.

- Providing care and support to vulnerable members of our community
- Relieving poverty; improving the health and wellbeing of our communities

Pet Rescue Funding to Support Organisations Affected by the Coronavirus
Pet rescue organisations can apply for funding to help support rescues throughout the short- and medium-term impact of the coronavirus. Through the Support Adoption for Pets Grant Programme, charities and not-for-profit organisations which rescue and rehome pets or provide temporary support to ensure pets can remain with their owners can apply for funding of up to £10,000 or up to 30% of total annual expenditure, whichever is the lower amount.
Funding must have a direct impact on animal welfare and can be used to cover vet bills, boarding costs, food, salaries of animal care staff, utilities and consumables. Priority will be given to organisations whose medium-term survival is at risk.

Postcode Dream Trust – Funding for Projects Which Address Systemic Societal Issues Related to the Covid-19 Pandemic (Closing date 30th October)
Registered charities can apply for a share of £3 million in funding to help communities across Great Britain recover from problems highlighted or exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Postcode Recovery Fund will offer grants of between £500,000 and £1 million for projects lasting between 12-24 months which tackle a systemic societal issue related to the pandemic. Priority will be given to projects which address:
- educational inequalities,
- domestic violence,
- health and wellbeing,
- social exclusion and isolation,
General running costs including ongoing staff costs, utility bills, council tax, rent and insurance etc are eligible for funding.

Power to Change – New Fund to Support Community Businesses Affected by the Covid-19 Crisis
Power to Change, the independent trust that supports community businesses in England, is launching a new £5 million package of support to enable community businesses affected by the Covid-19 crisis to adapt, renew and rebuild their businesses so they can remain financially viable and best serve their local communities during the pandemic’s ‘new normal’.
The Community Business Renewal scheme is the second part of Power to Change’s £12million response to the Covid-19 pandemic. In April 2020, the trust announced rapid emergency funding to support community businesses during lockdown.
TheCommunity Business Renewal scheme has been designed by Power to Change based on evidence and input from partners and community businesses themselves. It aims to support community businesses in a variety of ways and working with partners it will include:
- A new fund offering unrestricted grants supporting resilience, renewal and restructure of community businesses
- Capacity strengtheningsupport to help community businesses increase knowledge, resilience and equip themselves to ‘re-boot’ successfully
- Two match-funding programmes to support community businesses with different types of fundraising
- Tailored support to help community businesses protect community assets
- A programme of work highlighting the role community business can play in the economic recovery
£5million fund entrepreneurs aged 18 to 30, grants and tailored support to maintain core business operations, as well as meet any existing financial commitments.
PWC – Grants for Black-led Social Enterprises and Charities that Benefit Ethnic Minorities (Closing date 30th October)
The PwC Foundation is a registered charity which aims to promote social inclusion and sustainable development in the UK. The Foundation has recently set up a ColourBrave Charity Committee which will allocate grants to Black-led social enterprises, as well as charities with ethnic minority beneficiaries for projects which help to continue to build an inclusive culture and tackle racial inequality.
Organisations are encouraged to apply for grants of between £2,000 and £25,000, depending on their scale, activity and impact. For grants of £10,000 and £25,000, last year’s financial statement and an impact report will be required.
The deadline for applications is 5pm on the 30th October 2020.

Ragdoll Foundation – Funding for Projects that Use the Arts and Media to Address the Concerns of Children
Not-for-profit organisations in the UK that are working with children and young people using the arts and creative media can apply for funding through the Ragdoll Foundation. The Foundation’s vision is to support projects where the concerns of childhood can be heard. A variety of art forms can be supported including dance, drama, ceramics, creative play, film, music, puppetry and storytelling. Supported projects need to support equality of opportunity, can include families and take place in rural or urban settings and may be delivered, for example, in children’s and community centres, nurseries, schools and hospitals.
Funding is available through two programmes:
- Main Grants Programme (formerly Open Grants Scheme) – Grants of up to £50,000 are available for new, larger or longer-term projects. Projects can last for up to three years. There is a two-stage application process. Stage1 applications to the main grants programme are assessed on a rolling basis and can be submitted at any time. Applicants successful at this stage will be invited to submit a stage 2 application.
- Small Grants Programme. Organisations can apply for up to £1,500 for small, one-off projects, pilot projects, or research and development projects lasting up to 6 months. The next deadline for applications is the 30th October 2020.
Preference will be given to those projects which have a deep commitment to listening to children and allow the perceptions and feelings of children themselves to be better understood. The Foundation is mainly interested in applications that involve children during their early years, but appropriate projects for older children (up to 18 years) will also be considered.

The Rank Foundation – Pebble Grants Programme – Currently open to applications for November Meeting
UK registered charities and recognised churches which are raising money for capital projects (building work, refurbishment or the purchase of long-term equipment) or a one-off short term activity (such as an annual respite break or holiday for disadvantaged young people) can apply for funding through the Rank Foundation – Pebble Small Grants programme.
To be eligible to apply the total project cost must be less than £150,000, the organisation must have an annual income of less than £500,000 and the organisation applying must already have raised a third of the total costs.
Applications can be submitted at any time and the Foundation is currently accepting applications for the November 2020 meeting of Trustees. Please note that the Foundation do not publish deadlines or maximum amounts as this is dependent on the number of applications received.
Organisations can only apply once every 12 months regardless of the outcome of their application.

Rank Foundation – Time to Shine
In response to the coronavirus pandemic, a new £10 million Grants Programme will be launched to provide support to 200 small-medium charities and social enterprises within the social sector.
The Rank Foundation’s Time to Shine Covid-19 Resilience Programme will offer immediate, short-term and urgent grant funding to organisations primarily within their network, RankNet, that are facing unprecedented demand for services, or those who have suffered a significant reduction in income due to the pandemic.
In addition, organisations will take part in the Time to Shine Leadership Programme to create new jobs within the social sector and to help build resilience.
The Foundation has received £5 million in match-funding from the Government’s Community Match Challenge scheme.
Resilience and Recovery Loan Fund – Big Society Capital
Charities and, social enterprises in disadvantaged areas facing financial hardship and disruption to their trading due to the coronavirus will be able to apply for emergency funding from a £100 million programme of loans and investment. The emergency package is made up of a £25 million Resilience and Recovery Loan Fund to provide emergency loans with no fees or interest for the first twelve months; £29 million for smaller, emergency loans to small businesses in more deprived areas; and up to a further £50 million over the coming months for existing and future investments as needed. Applications for the Resilience and Recovery Loan Fund are expected to open in mid-April, with the first loans completed by the start of May. Further details on the programme will be available shortly.

£1 Million Crowdfunding Support for Sports Clubs and Organisations
Sport England has committed another £1 million to combating the impact of coronavirus by match funding money raised by sports clubs and community activity groups through the fundraising platform Crowdfunder.
The Crowdfunder platform is scrapping all fees for the Active Together programme and is covering transaction charges to ensure every penny raised by a club goes to them. They’re also providing a series of monthly webinars offering advice and examples of successful previous Crowdfunder projects involving sport.
Through the ‘Active Together’ partnership with Crowdfunder Sport England are matching crowd funds of up to £10,000 raised by clubs and organisations hit by the coronavirus crisis.
Clubs and organisations can sign up via the Crowdfunder website. They’ll then need to set their crowdfunding target and put in place incentives and rewards. Once 25% of the crowdfunding is met, Sport England will confirm the match funding – up to £10,000 – and can distribute the money within seven days of being raised.
To be eligible, organisations must be:
- Local sports clubs
- Charity, community, voluntary and social enterprise sector organisations that deliver sport and/or physical activity in their community – including organisations that are not solely or primarily sports organisations – for the benefit of people residing in England.
- If the application is approved, projects get match funding of up to 50% towards their initial crowdfunding target – up to a maximum of £10,000.
To receive a pledge, projects need to do two things:
- Raise at least 25% of the initial target
- Raise this from a minimum number of supporters (dependent on the size of the initial target).

Tesco Bags of Help Scheme to Focus Support on Children and Young People
At the end of September, the Tesco Bags of Help COVID-19 Communities Fund closed and in its place during October, November and December Tesco will be providing grants of £1000 to support projects focused on local children and young people.
The type of projects funded could include:
- Mental Health support for children and young people – COVID-19 has had an impact on the health and wellbeing of children, particularly mental health.
- Outdoor activities – sport & green space provision for children & young people including use of green spaces support wellbeing through physical activities.
- Non statuary educational activities – to support, widen and rebuild educational support networks for children, web-based activities. Sport, exercise, and arts.
- Young carers– support for young carers as a result of current and continued isolation.
- Bereavement counselling – offering support to children that have lost family members and support networks due to COVID-19
- Child poverty – to support organisations that offer family support that are further impacted by COVID-19, which could include food/educational packs, free activities.
- Vulnerable at-risk children – the pandemic has impacted vulnerable children with challenging home & family circumstances.
Other local good causes supporting children and young people will also be considered.
Eligible applicants include charities, voluntary or community organisations, schools, health bodies, Parish/Town Councils, local authorities and social housing providers.
Projects should last up to 12 months and can be a stand-alone project or discrete, self-contained part of a larger scheme, or part of a phased project. Funding can be used to cover 100% of project costs.

The next closing date for stage 1 applications to the Veolia Environmental Trust is the 3rd December 2020 for projects that will start between 22nd March and 23rd June 2021.
Grants of between £10,200 and £75,000 are available to constituted not for profit organisations and registered Environmental Bodies towards:
• Community buildings
• Parks and paths, play, Multi Use Games Areas (MUGAs) and recreational facilities
• Nature reserves

Volant Trust Announces Launch of Covid-19 Response Fund (Opened 1st August)
The Volant Trust has opened its Covid-19 Response Fund. The Trust is accepting applications from registered charities, community interest companies, community organisations or social enterprises in the UK and internationally that demonstrate a strong focus on alleviating social deprivation and helping vulnerable groups who have been particularly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Funding is available to support running and core costs as well as for medical equipment and the production or distribution of PPE will also be considered.
There are no funding levels indicated at the award of grants will be at the discretion of the Trustees.
To receive a decision by April 2021 applications must be submitted between 1st August and 31st December 2020.
To receive a decision by October 2021 applications must be submitted between 1st January and 31st July 2021.
Woodland Trust Free Trees for Community Groups and Schools
The Woodland Trust has thousands of free tree packs to give away to community groups and schools. The trees are available for planting on an area that is accessible to the public so that it can be used and enjoyed by others. If applying as a school, trees should be planted on either the school grounds, land the school has arranged regular access to or in an area that is publicly accessible.
Applications for a tree pack for a community group need to:
- State that the land is accessible to the public
- Make sure the local community is aware of the plans to plant and is happy for the project to go ahead.
- Be an application for up to 420 trees in each application cycle or season.
There are two delivery periods per year in November and March, when the trees are dormant and perfect for planting. Tree packs can consist of:
- Hedging to make a natural screen or connect existing woodland to help wildlife stay on the move
- Copse to create a mini forest school classroom or a peaceful spot that’s an oasis for birds
- Wild harvest an array of fruits and nuts
- Year-round colour for beautiful blossoms, bright berries and stunning autumn displays
- Working wood to fuel a log burner in 7-10 years, or to carve or weave willow
- Wildwood to establish food and shelter for wildlife
- Urban trees for residential areas with limited communal space

Yorkshire Building Society’s Charitable Foundation – Funding to Support Charities and Communities Affected by Coronavirus
The Yorkshire Building Society’s Charitable Foundation has launched a Coronavirus Response Fund to support registered charities that are helping local communities affected by the coronavirus. Funding will support groups and activities that
- Help vulnerable people who are self-isolating.
- Ensure supplies for foodbanks and organisations, in particular to alleviate the impact of children no longer receiving free school meals due to school closures.
- Help community response coordination, including volunteer costs.
- Cover additional costs of working remotely and adapting services delivered in the wider community
- Cover the loss of income for charities providing support for vulnerable groups
The £100,000 fund will make donations of between £250 and £2,000 to help with costs such as running costs, staff and travel costs, and volunteer expenses.
Priority will be given to:
- Charities that have an income of £100,000 or less.
- Charities that support the ongoing needs of vulnerable people to ensure that their health and wellbeing is maintained.
- Charities that support the ongoing needs of people suffering from poverty or those who have suffered a loss of income

Funding for Christian Projects Focusing on Improving Young Peoples Lives
Grants of up to £25,000 are now available to churches and Christian organisations to help them connect with children and young people and forge lasting links with families in their area. Support is available for projects that focus on improving the lives of young people (aged 0-18) and encouraging church growth as young people discover faith for themselves and begin to play an active part in church communities.
Examples of the types of items that can be funded include:
- Musical instruments for a junior choir;
- Soft play sessions for toddlers and;
- Transforming an under used room into a chill out zone for young people.

In response to the coronavirus, the UK Community Foundations is making a £250,000 Infrastructure Fund available for BAME-led infrastructure organisations that can help other BAME-led organisations apply for National Emergency Trust (NET) grants though their local Community Foundations.
Grants of between £5,000 and £20,000 are available to fund work such as for example:
- Awareness-raising via marketing and communications
- Mentoring/supporting of groups through the local Community Foundation application process
- Support with monitoring and reporting
- Provision of micro grants to enable applications for NET funding through community foundations
- Building relationships to help community foundations identify and address barriers to funding BAME-led organisations and communities

Funding to Help Disadvantaged Young People and Children
Charities in England and Wales can apply for Early Years Opportunities Grants through the Masonic Charitable Foundation. The Early Years Opportunities programme is open to charities that help disadvantaged children and young people (up to the age of 25 years) overcome the barriers they face to achieve the best possible start in life.
Grants can be offered to charities that provide:
- Mental and physical health support
- Learning and development, including language and communication skills, social and emotional etc.
- Parental support, including whole family approach
- Pastoral and advocacy support
The type of activities that could be funded include:
- Additional educational opportunities such as improving literacy and numeracy
- Individual interventions, i.e. parent education, home visiting or mentoring

The programme offers both small grants of up to £5,000 per year for up to 3 years to charities with an annual income of up to £500,000 ; and grants on average of between £20,000 and £60,000 to charities with an annual income of above £500,000 for projects lasting up to three years.
The small grants programme is currently closed and will reopen from 1 October – 23 December 2020 (4pm) with decisions being announced in June 2021. The large grants programme is currently open and will close on 31st October 2020.
Funding to Help Museums, Galleries and Cultural Organisations Affected by Coronavirus
UK public museums, galleries, historic houses, libraries and archives can apply for funding to help them respond to immediate challenges connected to the Covid-19 crisis, and to adapt and reimagine ways of working in the future.
Through the Art Fund’s Respond and Reimagine grants, funding of between £10,000 and £50,000 is available to support the priority areas of audiences, collections, adaptable digital skills and infrastructure, and supporting the workforce. Funding can be used to provide immediate practical support connected to reopening such as staffing, equipment, training, or planning for future activities, and to provide opportunities for organisations to help them adapt for the future.

Funding to Help Religious Organisations Support Communities Affected by Coronavirus
In response to the coronavirus, the Allchurches Trust is making grants of up to £50,000 available to churches, Christian Charities, cathedrals and Christian denominational bodies to enable them to implement new ways of working and introduce new and/or enhanced support and activities to meet changing need within communities across the UK & Republic of Ireland.
The Hope Beyond Programme will look to address three themes:
- Projects responding to the issues of loneliness and isolation exacerbated by the Coronavirus pandemic where new and/or enhanced support is being proposed. This could include enabling improved accessibility to buildings/activities, including making buildings COVID-19 safe for access – as long this is to enable new and/or enhanced support to be offered.
- Projects focused on growing community resilience and promoting mental and emotional health and wellbeing, including the provision of mental health and wellbeing support groups and 1:1 counselling for people of all ages (including clergy).
- Projects focused on growing technological capability and resilience, particularly increasing digital capacity and provision, and supporting those without online access to get online through training and support.
Grants are available to help fund:
- Capital costs, such as adaptation of buildings and the purchase of equipment
- Project-related salaries and some other revenue costs (to the end of 2021), such as training of staff and/or volunteers, hire of buildings and/or equipment, and promotion and marketing of new activities
The amount awarded will depend upon the cost of the project and (where applicable) the level of need in the community (which will be assessed based on applicable deprivation indices), ranging from 10% of project cost through to 80%.
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis and there is no fixed deadline while funds for the programme are still available.
Fore RAFT Funding to Help Small Charities and Social Enterprises Recover from the Covid-19 Pandemic (Round 2 registration will close 19th October)
The Fore has launched the second round of their RAFT funding in response to the Covid-19 pandemic to support small charitable organisations and social enterprises as they recover and adapt to the post-lockdown world. The Transition Fund will offer grants of up to £15,000 in two rounds for organisations with an annual turnover of less than £500,000.
The funding can be used
- To adapt their services to meet changing beneficiary needs (for example, setting up a new programme for people experiencing increased stress or isolation)
- To build capacity for increased needs after the acute phase of the crisis has passed (for example, growing or upskilling the staff team in expectation of increased demand)
- To provide immediate services to vulnerable groups (for example, switching the organisation’s work to providing food to the hungry or urgent psychological support for those in distress)
- To switch existing programmes to remote delivery (for example, by purchasing equipment or software for working virtually).
Those charities working with marginalised groups and led by people in the community that have found it hard to access funding in the past are encouraged to apply.

Funding to Improve the Health Outcomes for Mothers and Babies from Deprived Areas or BAME Backgrounds
Voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations in England can apply for funding of between £200,000 and £510,000 for projects which improve health outcomes for mothers and babies from preconception to two and a half years of age in deprived areas or from BAME backgrounds.
This new round of the £3.3 million VCSE Health and Wellbeing Fund has been launched with the theme of ‘Starting Well’ to support community projects which prevent obesity, reduce smoking, and improve perinatal mental health and learning and development amongst mothers and babies.
- have run for at least 3 years
- develop or expand services for children from preconception to 2-and-a-half years old, so they receive the best possible start in life
- be focused on improving health outcomes in black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) communities or areas of high deprivation (including urban, rural and coastal areas).
The fund is open to applications from charity-run projects aimed at:
- improving perinatal mental health
- reducing the percentage of babies born with low birthweight
- increasing babies being breastfed
- obesity prevention and support
- reducing smoking or encouraging smoke-free homes
- improving learning, speech and language development
- improving immunisation rates and reducing rates of preventable disease

Funding to Support Disadvantaged and Vulnerable Older People
Local and national charities in England and Wales can apply to the Later Life Inclusions grants programme run by the Masonic Charitable Foundation. The Later Life Inclusion grants programme is open to charities working to reduce loneliness and isolation of vulnerable and disadvantaged people over 50.
Grants can be offered to charities that provide:
- Mental and physical health support
- Gateway and access to service, e.g. transport and technology
- Community based approaches, i.e. volunteering, positive ageing and neighbourhood support
- Advocacy, social and welfare support
The type of activities that could be funded include:
- Support for emotional and psychological planning for later life
- Digital inclusion sessions to enable older people to access services
- Activities and clubs enabling older people to remain active and make friends
- Providing companionship and befriending schemes for periods of transition
- Advice and information on options for those with health conditions
- Carers and respite support

Funding to Support the Most At-Risk Young People Affected by the Covid-19 Crisis
The 7stars foundation exists to support the most challenged, at-risk young people in the United Kingdom. In July The Foundation is launching an unrestricted Charity Support Fund for UK charities with a turnover of less than £1.5m, who are working with at-risk young people affected by the covid-19 crisis.
The funding will be made available across the themes of
- and for those who are supporting young child carers.
The charity is offering grants of up to £2,500, which can be used for overheads, salary costs, and/ or wherever else the organisation needs to apply the money to ensure its survival and sustainable services in the future.

Funding for Projects that Improve People’s Lives
The Henry Smith Charity provides grants of between £20,000 and £60,000 per year for up to three years to charitable organisations (charities and not-for-profit organisations, including social enterprises) that help people when other sources of support have failed, are inappropriate, or are simply not available.
The charity has six funding priorities that describe the work they support and how they want to bring about change for the most disadvantaged people in the greatest need. These are:
• Help at a critical moment – Helping people to rebuild their lives following a crisis, critical moment, trauma or abuse.
• Positive choices – Helping people, whose actions or behaviours have led to negative consequences for themselves and others, to make positive choices.
• Accommodation / housing support – Enabling people to work towards or maintain accommodation.
• Employment and training – Supporting people to move towards or gain employment.
• Financial inclusion, rights and entitlements – Supporting people to overcome their financial problems and ensure that they are able to claim their rights and entitlements.
• Support networks and family – Working with people to develop improved support networks and family relationships
Grants can cover running costs, salaries and project costs for organisations that can demonstrate a track record of success and evidence the effectiveness of their work. Eligible organisations include charities and not-for-profit organisations (including social enterprises) in the UK with a turnover of £50,000 – £2 million (in exceptional circumstances up to £5 million).
Applications can be submitted at any time and decisions are usually made within 6 months.
