Good News Stories from our Community Builders (19th September to 2nd October) – SAVS

Chiquitta Bruce, Milton – Sponsored by Milton Community Partnership

The Hamlet Court Road Art Trail ran from 12th-18th September with artists provided by the New City Gallery. Local artists were hosted by shops along Hamlet Court to showcase their work and venues benefited from the increased footfall. Chiquitta worked for several months establishing good connections between venues and vendors to ensure everything went smoothly. There’s been a lot of art showcased within the city and it was great to see Westcliff get some of the limelight.

Over the last few weeks the Garden group at Norton place have been looking at different aspects of Gardening especially over the changing Season and community involvement. On Friday, Jack and Chris came down to install the food pantry that Jack had made in the Workshop at West Road. The idea is that the local community who might be in need can come and access food and others can leave food items for those in need.

It was really good to see what Jack had made and his craftsmanship also  Chris provided some much needed food to support the community.

Kayleigh Wilkins, Victoria – Sponsored by St Vincent’s Southend

I met with a lady at Utopia in town. I spoke with her through the Nextdoor app online which connects you to your neighbours. She wanted to discuss with me her ideas to use her knowledge and skills previously learnt to then pass on to people within the community. She wants to find a location within the town centre to have as a shop but where she can do sessions to teach people within the community silversmith for a small fee. She wanted to know if I can help bring in members of the community for her as her plan is all set she just needs to find a venue and get started.
