Housing in Later Life Consultation 2021 – Southend Borough Council

Housing in Later Life Consultation 2021 – Southend Borough Council

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council have commissioned the Housing LIN (Learning and Improvement Network) to help us better understand the current and future need for different types of housing, health and social care support for older people in the borough. We are seeking your help as it is important to us that the project is informed by the views of older people living in Southend-on-Sea.

What is the purpose of this project?

Across the UK our population is ageing, by 2040 the number of people over the age of 55 will have risen by 26%. The purpose of this research is to provide the Southend-on-Sea Borough Council with local evidence of housing needs and preferences to inform future housing delivery.

Who do we want to speak with?

  • Anyone over the age of 55 living in Southend-on-Sea, including their family and/or carers.

What can you do to help?

Survey: Available at https://yoursay.southend.gov.uk/housing-in-later-life-consultation-2021 from today until 5pm Sunday 16 January 2022

  • Are you able to complete, share, or help someone complete our survey?

Qualitative Research: Nov – Dec 2021

This will be held through a series of workshops which will involve speaking to local people about what is important to them when it comes to housing. This research will involve a mixture of virtual and face-to-face engagement. Our priority is to keep everyone safe and well.

  • Are you able to identify individuals to take part in this research?
  • Are you able to put us in touch with individuals who are happy to speak with a member of our research team online either on a 1:1 basis or in a small group?

How will this research be used?

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council will use the evidence to better influence planning and delivery of a range of housing and support options that reflects what older people say is needed.
