01 Nov Little Heroes ASD Support Group Celebrate 10 Years Supporting the Local Community
It is an amazing feeling to have reached 10 years of supporting the local community. It is eye-opening to see how many local families we have supported over the years and been part of their journey – especially on a face-to-face basis. We currently have an active reach via social media of over 5,000 people and we are nearing 500 families for our physical support.
To look back at what should have been 90 minutes a month volunteering at a coffee morning has rapidly evolved into our own community. The support begins in our sessions and we find this is where we can enable them to come together and continue the support further and for life long. Three years ago we took on a business property in London Road, Westcliff, this has helped to enable a wider support network and also a better understanding of Autism in our City. Little Heroes ASD Support Hub is a place where families of children with autism (no official diagnosis required) can come, socialise and relax whilst being around other families who understand.
To celebrate such a fantastic milestone, we have literally partied all week long! Some of the activities include pony parties for our Dad’s Club and preschool, Chaos and Calm Messy play session, Afternoon tea for the parents and even a new experience for us and many of our families – a cake smash photo shoot enabled by the amazing Sam Diver, who was patient and gave her time to really demonstrate what we say to every family that comes through our door – “Never Say Never”! With a little support and understanding the world can be a nicer place! Here is to the next ten years!
