Mental Elf Fun Run for South East and Central Essex Mind

Mental Elf Fun Run for South East and Central Essex Mind

On the 7th December around 300 elves gathered at Belfairs Wood in Leigh-on-Sea to take part in the 2nd annual Mental Elf Fun Run for South East and Central Essex Mind. This event helps raise awareness of mental health during the festive season and also raises vital funding for mental health services in the local area.

Families, children and even dogs(!) put on their best festive fancy dress and took part in the muddy woodland run. Despite the wintery conditions elves of all ages walked, jogged and sprinted two laps of the woods, covering nearly 6K, before being rewarded with sustainable wooden medals, mince pies and goodie bags at the finish line.
A huge thank you to everyone that took part in the fun run, helped spread the word, or gave a sponsorship donation. We really appreciate your help in raising vital funds and awareness that allow us to continue doing what we do. South East and Central Essex Mind’s vision is mental wellbeing for all: we want everyone in our local community to be aware of and know how to improve their wellbeing. Regular physical activity is associated with lower rates of depression and anxiety – An active lifestyle not only keeps our bodies healthy, but it makes us feel good too! By taking part in the Mental Elf Fun Run and taking on our muddy fitness challenge, we hope to have helped people boost their own wellbeing as well as helping others across South East Essex.

Together we can help remove the stigma around mental health and continue to provide for local people in need of mental health signposting, guidance and support. Thank you for showing up, taking part and helping change our society for the better. A big thank you also to our generous sponsors, Energie Fitness who also kindly hosted the warm up, to Waitrose, Tesco & Asda for their kind donations and PRS for our music licence.

A special thank you to Essex Wildlife Trust who were so helpful and accommodating to us at Belfairs Wood, and to all our wonderful volunteers without whom the charity simply wouldn’t be able to stage such fun events such as our Mental Elf Run. Fundraising numbers are still being totalled up and will be announced soon but we hope everyone had a fantastic time. Photos of the event will be available on our Facebook Page and our donation page is still live until the new year. If you would like to join us at our next fundraising event or fundraiser, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via fundraising@seandcessexmind.org.uk – we have lots of plans for 2020!

Thank you so much for helping support local mental health services this Christmas. Merry Christmas and best wishes from everyone at South East and Central Essex Mind.
