04 Aug Support residents in Southend by being a Community Support Volunteer
Are you able to offer a maximum of 4 hours of your time, 1 day a week to support local residents? Do you drive and have a valid DBS check?
Throughout the Covid Pandemic, the Voluntary Sector has supported Southend’s Community with over 1,000 Community Tasks. This fantastic effort has been by local voluntary groups and organisations. To enable them to return back to supporting the community in their normal ways, SAVS is looking for volunteers to continue supporting residents with tasks like collecting shopping, picking up prescriptions and accessing money. For many residents this support has been life-saving. Perhaps you are already involved, and would you like to continue, or would like to get involved from scratch.
How it works:
We’re looking for a team of 20-30 volunteers in 5 areas across Southend for 1 day a week. You can choose the day, Tuesday-Saturday that fits in best with your schedule. We’ll send you up to two tasks the day before which will be supporting residents with essential tasks like collecting their shopping, picking up their prescriptions or accessing their money. The number of requests we receive each day changes, so some weeks you might only have one task and others even none. We’ll let you know the day before so it doesn’t affect your day.
I’m interested, what next?
If you’d like to get involved, we first ask you to fill out this simple online form that will let us know which days you can are available and in what area of Southend. We’ll be holding an online training session providing you with more information, safeguarding tips and how the process will work. We’ll ask you to sign-up to the Timebanking Southend project, so that you are covered by insurance. Once you’re signed up, we’ll keep in touch with any tasks that residents need support with on your chosen day.
