Essex Boys & Girls Clubs is a youth charity working in Essex who are delivering the National Citizen Service (NCS), a government-funded youth and community programme across South & West Essex this summer.
We are looking for seasonal staff to join our team, supporting young people aged 15-17 to push themselves, help them gain an idea of what they want from their future and give back to their communities as part of our 2 and 3-week programmes.
Our summer staff are key to making NCS a success – they are the ones that elevate our programme out of the ordinary, ensuring that every member of their team of young people has the experience of a lifetime… This is an opportunity not to be missed!
All staff members will receive comprehensive training before programme and then support to lead groups of teens throughout their NCS experience.
All roles will involve a mix of residential and non-residential work with Phase 1 of the 3-week programme being residential and the rest of the programme non-residential; all NCS activities will be based within Essex.
Team Leader & Assistant Team Leader roles are available. Responsibilities include mentoring young people, managing staff, facilitating activity sessions, logistics, overseeing social action projects and many more… Our seasonal roles cover a range of salaries, time requirements and experience levels so there is a role for all!
Essential Skills • Belief in young people and in assisting them to take more active roles in their communities. • Ability to build a rapport and empathise with young people aged 15-17 from a range of backgrounds. • Be a team player, willing to participate as part of a team with experience of motivating teams. • Good spoken and written communication skills. • A responsible attitude. • Ability to remain calm in difficult situations and whilst tired or stressed. • Have a sense of humour and a positive outlook.
Desired Skills • Experience of working directly with young people (either in a voluntary or paid capacity). • Experience leading and facilitating activities with young people. • Experience in a residential youth environment (e.g., youth camp, scout camp, boarding school etc.) • Experience of running a community/social action project. • Well organised and proficient in the use of IT. • Basic knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety and data protection policies.
